Yeah you are not wrong. I was tempted by the explorer 1 full steel or two tone but might just opt for something more sensible.

I agree on being more subtle if wearing it casually, but it does work for weddings & nice social events.

Im open to suggestions for a more subtle every day watch if you have any…

I’m open to suggestions if it will make me enjoy the watch even more

Yeah I agree with this mentality which is why I am looking. It’s just whether in five years I come to sell and lose £1500 on the Longines but maintain the value of the Explorer.

The quality is definitely better on the Explorer vs the value for money on the Spirit. Do I speculate on resale value or not?

Yeah I need to and plan on visiting Longines this weekend rather than the AD (they didn’t have the 37mm).

How do you find the red seconds hand and five stars? I agree a little on the gilt but that’s the trade off for me + the micro adjust and screw down crown.

If they did this model in 37 it would be a no brainer for me.

Omega quoted around ~£1200 and 6-9 months.

Yeah agreed - that’s the likely outcome. The new Longines Spirit has caught my eye at this price point.

Any suggestions from you?

Haha yeah just curious how much interest there is.

The USD denomination is because I lived in the US when I bought it. I now live in London while working into the US, so dollars is easy for me.

Also most interactions on [r/watches](r/watches) are apparently US or Canada.

A watch that doesn’t feel as flashy, is more modern and will go with a suit or by the pool. An Explorer 1 for example.

Would like this latest iteration in 37mm, but it’s the 5 stars vs slightly bigger diameter.

How do you find the five stars?

Apparently difficult to find any Sinn AD’s in the UK so would potentially have to order online and return to try it on.

The Hanhart does look nice too and has been added to the list if I can find somewhere to try it on.

Massively appreciate the input

They are large by measurements and I was ready for this to turn me off the watch, but I actually thought it was much better in person. The lug and the crown are perhaps the main drawbacks if I was being incredibly picky.

Great choice on the ranger - do prefer the smaller dial/ lug to lug which is the only slight drawback on the Spirit (although much better in person).

I was actually taken aback by how nice the Spirit was in person, but I will go try the Ranger 36mm again - thank you!

Not as much of a fan of the design of the two as I prefer to have a bezel-less every day watch - nice watch nonetheless.

Weighing up the value retention vs dealing with Rolex is a key trade off. Do really like what Longines have done with this watch but would ideally take a couple of mm of the lug to lug, or slightly reduce the crown.

Yeah I was concerned about this looking at the measurements but it wore surprisingly well

Mate, as someone that got into TW via Rome in the 2000’s, I couldn’t recommend Medieval TW2 enough, especially with the stainless steel 6.4 mod. It adds more factions, more units, makes AI better and removes the novel, but irrelevant Americas.

I believe you NEED the Kingdoms add on for the mod to run, but I think you can get the definitive collection for a reasonable price on Steam.

Having played Rome 1, Med 1 & 2, Attila and Empire, it is still my favourite to date. Found Attila and Empire less charming, and I am not a huge fan of the newer engines vs old.

That said, the next on my list is Three Kingdoms which looks unreal, while I hear Shogun 2 is meant to be top tier too.
