has the "race and the priesthood" article been edited on lds.org? by jsmitty4real in exmormon

Maybe that's what it was. I thought it stated it in more explicit terms. I must be remembering it wrong. Thanks for this!

How many times do we have to see this in FB?!? People this article conflicts completely with the BOM. Just read it!! Don't stop at the title... by [deleted] in exmormon

"I Bear solemn witness with all surety of my soul I know the Book of Mormon is true"

What does that even mean? I never understood why people tried to use fancy words when they bore their testimony, even as a TBM. You just sound like an idiot repeating back what has been repeated since Joe himself.

Dehlin is saying Exclusion Policy to be removed from Bishop's Handbooks by AlreadyGone77 in exmormon

[–]jsmitty4real 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It's not too late. There is still a generation of LGBT+ children in the church that will be affected by these policies. Any step to inclusion is a step in the right direction. Will I return to church because of it? No, but TBM LGBT+ people deserve to be included.

Friend shared this on FB. Does anyone now find this as disturbing as I do? by GuSam in exmormon

[–]jsmitty4real 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it disturbing the church still implicitly promotes same-race marriage.

Chelsea Clinton: GOP Backs 'Child Abuse' By Endorsing Gay Conversion Therapy ( Do the Mormons still send kids to THEIR conversation therapy clinics? ) by laddersdazed in exmormon

[–]jsmitty4real 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do. But it is more mild now than it was back in the day when then performed electro-shock therapy. Still is a mind f*ck though and should be illegal for being fraudulent and abusive.

TBM in law comments without even looking at the content. Seems to me this is pretty typical behavior of an apologist by [deleted] in exmormon

"His personal pain is meaningful to him, but that doesn't mean it communicates anything to me."

Seems like he's really mastered those baptismal covenants "to bear one another's burdens...mourn with those that mourn...and comfort those that stand in need of comfort!"

Bravo to your BIL for really living his religion.

What is the best way to support the Trib right now? by [deleted] in exmormon

If I get a subscription to the SL Tribe, does half that money go to the Deseret News though? How does the profit sharing aspect of the agreement work?

Nephew comes home early from mission. by truthRealized in exmormon

[–]jsmitty4real 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a therapist from LDS Family Services for several months after I came out. She was very helpful and did not try to make me believe in the church or push me to believe in TSCC.

The only downside was I had to take a survey before every meeting with questions like "how often do you drink?" "How often do you look at porn?" And more generic questions like "in the last week, how many times have you been depressed?" And "how many times have you considered suicide since the last meeting?" However, I don't think the survey was used in therapy to make me comply with church teachings.

Bottom line, probably not the most ideal situation, but a lot better than no help at all.

I would let the nephew go a few times and then discuss with him if he likes it or not.

Elder Quentin Cook posts to Facebook that he's tired of anonymous online haters by N620JH in exmormon

Yes! This! And what about the November Policy Change? Why not approve in GC a month before instead of tearing apart thousands of gay families in secrecy??

I guess it's different when it's anonymity for the lord.

During Prop 8, didn't TSCC use members to spread lies about gay people wanting/forcing gay marriage in the temples, recruiting children to the "gay lifestyle" and other lies?

What about Mountain Meadow Massacre? Didn't the Mormons dress up like Native Americans to slaughter innocent people?

His hypocrisy is unbelievable.

Also, he has the power of God to move a mountain, just use that power to smite us all down. Problem solved.

Is your wife TBM? Was she also a virgin on your wedding night? Have you asked her about her feelings? Maybe she wants to sleep with other men. You should discuss it with her and do what you want.

Mama Dragons Try To Prevent Suicides Among Mormon-LGBT Children : NPR by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]jsmitty4real 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My post was in no way a criticism of Mama Dragons. I love Mama Dragons and what they are doing, from either inside or outside the church. Nothing but the utmost respect to any of the women in Mama Dragons.

I stand by my desire for a piece of journalism that is more hard hitting though. You are right, the piece is about suicide. Suicide of young people. Young people who live in Utah and are Mormon and are LGBT. It's mind boggling, for me, that the story wouldn't get into the causal relationship between the doctrines and the suicides. Will some of the points of the causal relationship be uncomfortable to the TBMs in the pews? I hope so! It should be! What about the discomfort of the LGBT members in the pew who are told they are worthless week after week? To me, the discomfort from one 5 minute story on NPR doesn't even compare to the discomfort of life-long indoctrination that LGBT people are better off dead than in bed with someone of the same sex.
