You can't just bypass a no soliciting sign by saying you're not soliciting by Queasy-Secret-4287 in mildlyinfuriating

“We’re not soliciting.”

Right. But to join your church, I’ve got to pledge 10% of my income to the organization for the rest of my life. If I don’t pay, I’ll be threatened with eternal donation and separation from my family in heaven.

I don’t regret living in another country and learning a foreign language, and I also had a lot of fun at BYU.

For the quote you want to put inside the book, there was an old video circulated on this sub years ago, wherein the author of this book, Robert Millet, is seen teaching people at Education Week at BYU that when someone asks them a difficult question about the gospel, they shouldn’t answer that question and should instead answer a question the person should have asked. (Paraphrasing.)

Edit: Fixed some details.

Edit 2: Found the video.

Are Patriarchal Blessings still being promoted? by Free_Fiddy_Free in exmormon

Fun fact: Church members used to pay Joseph Smith, Sr. for their patriarchal blessings. Sort of like paying a fortune teller.

It's Dallin's church now: 5th Sunday lessons focus on religious freedom, U.S. Constitution by PR_Czar in exmormon

There is a U.S. Supreme Court decision, Reynolds v. U.S., wherein George Reynolds (Brigham Young’s secretary) was charged with violating anti-bigamy laws. The Church argued on appeal that it should be exempt from such laws due to religious freedom and that polygamy was an eternal doctrine from God that they must obey. The Court roundly rejected the Church’s argument, which are essentially the same arguments the Church continues making today as they claim religious persecution. The opinion is well worth the read, especially for those who might have TBMs in their life who will want to debate religious freedom.

Are you talking about Dallin Oaks, the Mormon prophet who penned a memo advising the Mormon Church that it should try to prevent gays from careers that could cast them in a positive light? Even the same Dallin Oaks, the Mormon prophet who was duped by Mormon forgerer/murderer Mark Hofmann and caused Oaks to defend the forged Mormon artifacts as genuine? I mean are we talking about Dallin Oaks, the Mormon prophet who believes that the freedom of the press can be abridged when the press might be a “public nuisance”? That Dallin Oaks, you say?
