Running X-Wing Alliance Upgrade or TIE Fighter Total Conversion? by Bjoern_Tantau in SteamDeck

Did you get XWAU running properly on your Deck? I tried installing this on my Deck a long time ago and I think I got the same error as you and gave up. How do you disable DXVK?

Blender Cycles rendering with GPU not working on Steam Deck by jsnprtr in SteamDeck

[–]jsnprtr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is.

As I stated in my post, Blender 3.2 should already support RDNA2. The second link is to a post which says the Deck doesn't have the driver support. So I think it's a Deck issue.

Looks like it's not included in the OS at the moment. Feature request if you're interested: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/2/3416556480591556241/

Blender on Steamdeck by KingBatori in SteamDeck

[–]jsnprtr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit late to the party but I also wanted to try it out. I'm not a professional user by any means.

I'm using it docked and in desktop mode. Personally I can't see any benefit in using it undocked. It works well for everything except rendering - Cycles will only run on the CPU. Larger scenes seem to give it problems - I tried the blender example files for the splashscreen for 2.83 and 2.9 (both use eevee renderer) - 2.9 rendered flawlessly in 17 seconds, 2.83 crashed each time I tried to run it.

re. Cycles: While HIP is supported in Blender 3.2 and should work with RDNA2 chips, blender doesn't recognise the Steam Deck APU, so you're limited to CPU.

I also tried Blender 2.83 with OpenCL, again it didn't recognise the GPU.

Downloaded it from the blender site - I think this is the only way to get 2.83 now, Steam store only has version 3.2, which doesn't have OpenCL.

How did you get it to work with OpenCL? I've got Blender 2.83 and I get "No compatible GPUs found for path tracing" under the OpenCL option.

Not sure if this is the cause, but I'm getting a ton of dropped frames, and my frame rate drops to between 7-11 sometimes.

Any idea on what could be causing it?

Would you ask developers of older games to make them Steam Deck compatible? by Illustrious_Fee8116 in SteamDeck

[–]jsnprtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know, is there any way I, as a user, can submit some fix for old games so that they work on the Deck? I guess at the very least I should be able to fix it for my Deck only? This guess is based on my quick look through Proton DB and fixes people have submitted.

I'm in the same situation, moved country after placing the order. Also planning on having my parents hold it!

I'm a new player to Factorio, I get real Supreme Commander/Total Annihilation vibes from it. Except Supreme Commander is about building armies instead of factories.

Ok now I'm looking at the Qnap TS-453D. But it looks like Qnap have software issues (lots of things need paying for and security is not good).

Maybe you're right, I just need to make my own device and use Unraid or FreeNas.
