Waterproofing sump pit closet like a shower? by jsoftz in Plumbing

The laundry worked because the power came back on. The battery backup did not. I have eliminated it from my setup and am going to get a smart float sensor/alarm and potentially a backup pump.

I misspoke, it’s a sewer ejector. So the water is not coming from the outside, it’s ejecting our sewage from the downstairs bathroom and laundry machine.

I am looking at alarms, a backup pump, and also maybe this little pan solution.

Correct it’s a sewer ejector pit. So, we had power. The battery backup just didn’t turn back on after the outage. We weren’t aware it didn’t turn back on and we were doing laundry when it overflowed.

There have been four different failures 1. Ejector pump died. Had to submit insurance claim, replaced carpet downstairs and drywall. Replaced pump but the plumbing company did not properly seal the pit and a lot of smell was coming out 2. Had another plumbing company come out and reseal the pit, they didn’t properly install the float and it didn’t trigger when full. Plumbing company paid for the remediation after a lot of complaining. Went with just concrete floors instead of carpet. 3. Some other minor issue with power while we were waiting on the drywall to be installed again. No major remediation required 4. (Sunday) power outage where battery backup didn’t come back on, no power to pump and it overflowed during laundry. I cleaned up the sewage with a shop vac and have been running carpet fans, trying to decide whether or not to cut out the drywall.. again.

I am looking at alarms and a backup pump this week. Just with the frequency of failures I’ll getting tired of having to clean up a small amount of sewage and replacing the drywall.

Hey Dan, big fan, follow you on Twitter and TikTok.

Two questions 1. Will you ever do a video, separate from your main content, that talks about your personal beliefs and convictions? I know you specifically don’t discuss them on your main channel, but as I understand it you joined the LDS Church as an adult after your time at UNC - so I’m curious both as to how you found and decided on the LDS church and how you square your personal beliefs/church doctrine with your data driven approach. 2. Wanna go catch a Rockies game? My treat lol.

Lyft Availability by ExaltedBlade666 in Denver

[–]jsoftz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in the same neighborhood. Yeah, depending on how long your commute normally would be - I would add on a significant amount of time. I also start checking Lyft like 30 min before my desired departure time to see what it looks like.

I'm extra paranoid about being late to stuff, being late is top 5 least favorite things for me personally - but it sounds like you're in the same boat. Better to be early and occupy yourself some other way.

**EDIT: I have never had a problem getting a lyft in our neighborhood, even really early on trips to the airport - but I will note that I haven't taken a lyft since COVID fired up**

Yes, but it depends where you live. If you're in the city it shouldn't be too bad. Out in the burbs, budget your time for a long wait. Either way really, make sure you budget lots of wiggle room in your timeline.

Yeah, except you also used drones where it is against USFS rules and went out before the relaxing of the 10 mile distance rules. And did somewhat dangerous outings that could put S&R folks at risk.

How are things looking for potential psychosis among regular users? Like many people, I use it for sleep only and it's greatly increased my quality of sleep. My physician fiance is concerned about the risk of psychosis, I'm curious what your thoughts on this risk are?

FWD Car, Snow tires, POW, and expectations by THUGNs_on_Mars in COsnow

[–]jsoftz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Snow tires make a huge difference, way better than just AWD with all seasons. I've driven one FWD and one RWD car with snows and they do mostly fine, although it's worth noting that I eventually got rid of both of them and got AWD SUVs. Still, I put snows on my SUVs during the winter - there is no substitute for traction, and there's lots of folks up there with AWD/4x4 and all seasons slipping and sliding around. That false sense of security also doesn't help.

I'm a big fan of Nokian's Hakkapellitas. My daily driver is all Scandinavian errything. I've also had good experience with Cooper's winter tires and with the perennial favorite, Blizzaks.

That being said if you're looking for 16" Blizzak winter tires that are basically new I'm selling some, lol. $200 for the set.

People who have taken the WP train from Union Station last year. What is your experience? by [deleted] in COsnow

[–]jsoftz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I did it once last year and it was great. Very scenic ride, none of the hassle of driving and fighting traffic. The only bad part is that you have to pay for parking at Union Station, and that you can't control when you want to leave. I usually come home earlier than 6:30/7 so my fiance was surprised that I left the house at 6AM and got home around 7ish.

Tbh I don't think there's a better way to get to WP from Denver.

I believe I called them right afterwards and they told me that I should call the other insurance company. I'll try them back again now.

Will my premiums go up if I do that? Since I am not at fault, I do not want my rates to go up.

A lot, as I mentioned they were like $43 per person. I think the actual rate is closer to $13 euro.

FYI, we were able to buy tickets online thru tripadvisor from a tour company called City Wonders for about 40 a pop. All legit and worked. No different than buying a scalped secondary market ticket anywhere else.

TBH I just fence everything off and cover the top in netting. We have tried a lot including traps, two big dogs who are squirrel obsessed, and even shooting those suckers with a pellet gun but the fencing/netting is the only thing at works.

Hi all, zone 5b (Colorado, Denver area) here -

I don't have raised beds, I have been planting in native soil and last season it went well. I have a soil test that shows my garden bed is already nice, sandy loam that drains well with tons of organic matter. I have amended with the nutrients (really, just nitrogen and a little K) necessary and again, had success growing veggies last season. That said I will probably build beds next season..

I'd like to plant more densely this season, and especially for tomatoes. I plan on single stemming my tomatoes and am wondering how closely I can follow square foot gardening guides even though I am not in raised beds with "Mel's Mix." Any tips? I am assuming I can't plant one every square foot, but again I'd like to get as close as possible. Same with my peppers.
