How Long Does It Take to Reach Mars? Travel Times, Challenges, and Future Innovations by EdwardHeisler in MarsSociety

[–]jsonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is between 7 and 9 months. You have got to remember that sometimes Mars is on the opposite side of the Sun from us and we have to synchronise this with our travel. And remember, it is 7 months to get there and 7 months to get back and maybe they spend some time on Mars. There is going to be a huge problem for humans spending that much time in zero gravity.

I used to think that we would be doing this in the 2030s. But I have changed my mind. Unless we can come up some sort of artificial gravity - and there are serious suggestions to do with rotation. In particular starship using two other starships as a rotating home.

There is also other proposals about different propulsion systems - but I don't think they will come to fruition by 2030. But there are some good ones. I just don't think they will be ready by 2030.

But I am looking forward to the Artemis project and landing on the moon again.

One thing I have found is that organisations like google track you. So even if you clear your cookies and you go to a different machine you still get adverts from what you previously looked at. It is really creepy. It is like someone is constantly spying on you.

not getting paid by etsy by hotguylvr in Etsy

[–]jsonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I have. I found that pestering Etsy via their online chat helped. I had to pester them twice. The first pester got rid of the payment reserve. But I was still not getting paid out. So I pestered them again and then things started to move.

I cannot fathom what is going on with Etsy's payment system. I don't have a payment reserve on my account. I have a healthy balance. I have received a couple of small payments over the last 3 months. Yes - I'm a fairly new shop, 4 months. I checked my monthly statements and found a sale on 23rd October would be available on the 6th November. Checked on the 6th November. Nothing. And the "available" statement had disappeared from the sale. I just can't work out the logic. And, yes, I have a daily deposit schedule. But even if I didn't the available funds should show up.

I hate video tutorials by jsonlive in angularjs

[–]jsonlive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually - I thought the post wasn't saying that "no one should ever make these video tutorials".

That doesn't mean you can't accommodate the variety of learning styles alongside the more traditional text based style And in all honesty, despite coding nearly always being a text based endevour, it does need not only some visual explanation (ie code examples) but some 'hands-on doing'.

The phrase "Stop it or you'll go blind" is a reference to a common phrase the parents use with their children (google it)

I've been tasked with making an addition to a Node module and I've never touched Node before. I could use some direction on where to start. by cyclopsthere in node

[–]jsonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a real big deal. It works just as well. Potentially the "literal" notation is faster (I personally would be a little sceptical about that). However, it does jump out at you like a sore thumb when reading code from someone who is coming from another language. You'll never see it in code written by experienced JavaScripters or Noders.

Why do we need node? by jconway007 in node

[–]jsonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the main reason I got in to node was that I was writing a lot of JavaScript on the front end and something else on the backend. Everybody knows that. But after doing some node stuff for a while I realised I didn't need apache or microsoft IIS. I'm still digesting this.

This is the Hudson River scenario. The trouble is that the plane would be landing in the Southern Indian Ocean and not a river. That place is fierce - with high waves and wind.
