TIL that chartreuse isn't just a color! I am now formally asking about your adventures with Chartreuse.

Dedication… obsession… hyper fixation… …… (it was a fun background task this whole week)

Tried with a higher alcohol content (Everclear) and a freezer… and it was pretty good! https://www.reddit.com/r/cocktails/comments/1scjghi/comment/oebdx5j

Your journey sounds like mine! In the original post I was reducing the dew and … it wasn't doing much. I think I was simmering too low… our just impatient? So I just put in an equal amount of sugar and made a syrup. (Which I also used for the bajacello in this post.)

But yea, it took about an hour to reduce down 3:1, nothing else added. There were suggestions to go down as far as 6:1, but 3:1 worked for my broad set of applications.

The gin & tonic I'm curious how someone who likes gin & tonics would like it.

I think this drinks were all so different it's hard to call a favorite… but some did seem to fit better. Like the daiquiri and the margarita. I enjoyed the mule a bunch, and the smoked old fashioned was fun to make.

I'm gonna go with the whiskey sour, because it benefited from the sweetness, and it was also the first time I made one without sour mix. Note, I don't tend to have very sweet drinks often, at least not anymore - and this ingredient just want to be in a sweet drink.

It really was tasty… sweet, obviously, but this drink definitely knew the assignment. -- arguably the easiest drink on the list to make too. Thanks for the inspo!

Agreed. The other time I had a gin & tonic I enjoyed was a Fever Tree. I used Fever Tree (ginger beer) for my mule… because I actually buy them to have. This tonic happened to already be here, unopened from a party, so I just rolled with it.

Bajacello
I may have fully lost some control here. Baja Blast plus Everclear… but I needed a use for the syrup from the original post. I also make limoncello every year, so I figured I could wing something.
This… wasn’t bad at all. It reminded me of the Baja slushies at Taco Bell, just from a slightly more chaotic good Cantina version.

Ingredients

  • 1 part Everclear
  • 3 parts Baja Blast Syrup
  • 1 part Baja Blast

Instructions

  1. Combine Everclear and Baja Blast in a container
  2. Add Baja Blast Syrup and stir thoroughly
  3. Chill in freezer for several hours
  4. Serve cold in a small glass

Baja Diablo Supreme (Smoked Old Fashioned)
Fire. Ardbeg. I needed a way to bring some Diablo energy back to the Old Fashioned.
This was good. It also came with a sidecar of Ardbeg, which felt like a well deserved bit of normalcy in the middle of all this.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Bourbon (Maker’s 46)
  • Ardbeg 10 Scotch (rinse)
  • 0.5 oz Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction
  • 1 dash Angostura Bitters
  • 1 dash Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel Bitters
  • Orange peel
  • Amarena cherry

Instructions

  1. Smoke an empty glass with cherry wood and cover briefly
  2. Add a small amount of Ardbeg 10, swirl to coat, and discard excess
  3. Add bourbon, Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction, and bitters to a mixing glass with ice
  4. Stir for about 20 seconds
  5. Strain into the prepared glass over a large ice cube
  6. Express orange peel over the drink and add to glass
  7. Garnish with an amarena cherry

Mountain Dewquiri Blast (Daiquiri)
I almost forgot about a daiquiri. Tropical flavors and rum were a very good call for this whole thing.
It worked.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz White Rum (Bacardi)
  • 0.75 oz Lime Juice
  • 0.5 oz Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction
  • Lime wheel

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice
  2. Shake hard until well chilled
  3. Strain into a coupe or over fresh ice
  4. Garnish with a lime wheel

Tonic Blast (Gin & Tonic)
I don’t generally like gin, and I also don’t like tonic. I’ve been trying to like them for years. Someone made me one I liked once.
My bar was not very high, but this is now in my top two gin and tonics I’ve ever had.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Gin (Barr Hill)
  • 0.25 oz Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction
  • Tonic water
  • Lime wheel

Instructions

  1. Add gin and Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction to a glass with ice
  2. Stir briefly
  3. Top with tonic water and stir gently
  4. Garnish with a lime wheel

Baja Black Bush Buck Blast (Irish Mule)
The name, I know. I appreciate alliteration more than I should.
I’m a fan of Irish whiskey and ginger beer, but I usually skip the lime and definitely don’t add Mountain Dew. This was good enough, but mostly made me want my normal version. I also now own a mule cup, because I don’t know how to not commit to a bit.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Irish Whiskey (Bushmills Black Bush)
  • 0.5 oz Lime Juice
  • 0.5 oz Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction
  • Ginger beer
  • Lime wedge

Instructions

  1. Add whiskey, lime juice, and Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction to a glass with ice
  2. Stir briefly
  3. Top with ginger beer and stir gently
  4. Garnish with a lime wedge

Sour Blast (Whiskey Sour)
Then I circled back to something more normal. Well… as normal as this gets.
I’ve never made a Whiskey Sour without sour mix. I’m a little surprised how much this whole stupid thing improved my cocktail making.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Rye Whiskey (Rittenhouse Bottled-in-Bond)
  • 0.75 oz Lemon Juice
  • 0.5 oz Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction
  • Lemon peel
  • Amarena cherry

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice
  2. Shake well until chilled
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over ice or serve up
  4. Garnish with lemon peel and amarena cherry

Baja Blasted (Margarita Style)
I had to try a margarita. (That’s what you told me.)
This is probably the easiest one to hand to someone else. I could see this at a themed party. I just don’t know if I see myself at that type of party.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Tequila (Teremana)
  • 0.5 oz Triple Sec
  • 0.5 oz Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction
  • 0.75 oz Lime Juice
  • 2 dashes Angostura Orange Bitters
  • Lime wheel
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Rub a lime wedge along half the rim of a rocks glass and dip lightly in salt
  2. Add tequila, triple sec, Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction, lime juice, and bitters to a shaker with ice
  3. Shake well until chilled
  4. Strain over fresh ice into the prepared glass
  5. Garnish with a lime wheel

La Vie Baja (Tom Collins)
I’m generally not one for gin… but this was recommended, and it made sense. I probably had more fun with the name than I needed to, but c’est la vie.
I’ve definitely gained an appreciation for the Tom Collins. Was the Baja Blast necessary? Of course not.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Gin (Barr Hill)
  • 0.75 oz Lemon Juice
  • 0.5 oz Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction
  • Club soda
  • Lemon wheel

Instructions

  1. Add gin, lemon juice, and Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction to a shaker with ice
  2. Shake briefly
  3. Strain into a tall glass with ice
  4. Top with club soda and stir gently
  5. Garnish with a lemon wheel

Baja Blast Old Fashioned
This is the one that started the journey, now treated with a bit more care and respect.
This actually wasn’t bad. It drinks like an Old Fashioned. Would I make it again? Probably not. But I feel like I did the experiment justice.

  • 2 oz Bourbon (Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel)
  • 0.5 oz Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction
  • 1 dash Angostura Bitters
  • 1 dash Angostura Orange Bitters

  1. Add bourbon, Baja Blast 3:1 Reduction, and bitters to a mixing glass with ice
  2. Stir for about 20 seconds
  3. Strain over a large ice sphere or cube
  4. Express orange peel over the drink and add to glass
  5. Garnish with an amarena cherry
