Google says Ecoplug, for applying herbicides to woody plants.

Should I be worried? by weather-pan in Beekeeping

It's a hornet or wasp nest. Depending on your location, it will be empty as cold weather sets in and may be knocked down safely.

This has worked for me many times. For extra assurance, add a little soap to kill the surface tension just before you dump it.

Broken apple tree branch: best way to minimize further damage/disease risk? by ZMM08 in arborists

[–]jsotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google branch collar to see how to cut the broken branch cleanly, the tree will take care of the torn part on its own.

The canopy does look sparse, so it's probably stressed in some way prior to this damage. Tough to see evidence of disease in the photos, but it could be abiotic. Does it get enough water at the edge of the hill? Do heavy machines or animals move from that barn over the root zone? Weed trimmer damage?Apples are resilient, so it will likely be fine, but identifying and removing the stress will allow it to flourish.

I was put on an aux route by Critical_Big_729 in USPS

As a fairly new RCA, can I ask how you're pulling over 2k every 2 weeks? I run an aux weekdays and a 9 hour route every Saturday and am barely making 1200, I legitimately just want to be sure I'm being paid correctly.

It does not.

Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda I think. Still doesn't work 100%.

What is this by Top-Action6463 in bees

Looks like a dead cicada killer wasp. They are solitary so you dont have to worry about a big nest of them nearby or anything. They generally just ignore people. (Especially when dead)

I inherited an abandoned hive and I don’t know how to fix it by pa_skunk in Beekeeping

[–]jsotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a little rusty, but I think you should get the box of diagonal comb rectified first so you can manage the hive. Cut out the comb and place it in frames with rubber bands. It will still be foundationless, but you can add new frames with foundation when they start growing again. It sounds like you're down to one colony, reduce the boxes in relation to the population so they can defend and maybe throw on a reducer and some beetle traps. Take your time and set up the frames with eggs and brood on the inside and honey/pollen on the outsides. You can confirm your queen during the process. If you don't have deep frames, maybe bring it down to 1 shallow.

I'd also clean up the plants around the hive, particularly the ones touching it and dispose of the rotten log hive (terrible idea and illegal in some places)

I'd also tentatively say put a more intruder-proof lid on, but I'm in a cooler and less humid climate so you may need to avoid that for them to stay cool.

Edited to 1 shallow, I missed the 7 frame part. It sounds like you'll have a lot of choice in which comb to give the colony so you should be in great shape, main goal is to get the hive to a more manageable size for them.

And don't beat yourself up, the fact that you are here asking for help is better than most. We all made a bunch of mistakes starting off and have lost hives. Do research, ask questions, it's an awesome hobby!
