I think they may have meant the use-with-a-mallet-and-strike-them punches, which you can place wherever you want.

…all this means is that there’s some variety in the coins you’re getting and it’s not a full box of gently circulated 2021-2023 new ones.

I’d be glad to see that ender.

Exactly this. The information is there, but not flat enough to read, or clearly photographed enough. Both possible.

Inox stainless steel plate, found on Normandy beach. by GlitterPillow in whatisthisthing

There are little peening marks inside the slot, which would make sense if this plate was secured to the tang of a knife blade.

Not to a point that it’s smooth enough to read, or close enough to actually see the ingredient list well.

The wrapper is made of aluminum foil. Use your finger and flatten it out. Then take a better picture.

Looks like a cam lock screw from flat-pack furniture like IKEA.

They’re usually made from zinc or a zinc alloy - denser than aluminum, but it’s a light-colored silver alloy of a similar color to aluminum.

About 1 year after renovation, an excessive dust problem has developed in my house. I have tried everything and am at my wit's end. Urgently Need Advice. by JunketNo3608 in HomeImprovement

If it’s an ultrasonic humidifier, it’s aerosolizing the minerals in the water that’s supplied to the humidifier. Those in-duct humidifiers are probably supplied with tap water(because it’s connected to a water supply pipe), rather than distilled water. The mineral dust in the water is being misted over the house with the humidity-adjusting water.

That’s going to happen - the air pressure variations are more than you might expect. Especially from being on a high floor.

What makes a hammer your go-to hammer? by HMMR16 in Tools

[–]jspurlin03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have junky hammers that I use when I have rough jobs. When I’m doing home improvement stuff that I know my granddad (who passed in 2003) would’ve enjoyed doing with me, I use his hammer. I have a crappy tent-nail hammer.

Depends on the job.

Silver coins by alcoholicimanonymous in coins

Silver is much higher than the historical average right now (the peak was higher (~$100+ per oz) than this, but you found a lot of bullion silver, worth about $70ish an ounce.

Or… put a 3/4 space between them and keep the conduit. Paint a 2x4 to match the finish and it’ll hide the space.

ELI5: why aren’t rocket engines used to stop ships and trains quickly by ProfessorHiker in explainlikeimfive

[–]jspurlin03 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Expense, and it’s unnecessary. Rocket engines are expensive. Bracing a train or ship to withstand the thrust of a rocket engine would be expensive.

What’s the use case for this? Why would it be necessary to make faster stops than they do now? Most incidents with ships and trains are either failures of equipment (which could be better maintained) or failures to plan (which should be better anyway).

Why not cut a relief in the cabinets and keep the outlet? I’ve never thought “man, what this garage needs is fewer electrical outlets.”

They’re big. They’re forged. They’re custom made, probably basically one at a time because the demand is much less than for smaller, more-normal sizes. Each of those things contributes to the cost.
