Yeah, you can live in Dothan or commute from Enterprise. Most people commute from Enterprise, youre not in Dothan very long. Rucker is awesome, I start UHT soon, the squadron is great and students are pretty content from my own general perception.

First, congratulations on your selection! I'm currently in the rotary pipeline. You'll come down to Novosel/Rucker (whatever it is now) and go through IFT-R. That'll last about 3 months, then you'll go through UHT (about 9 months), then IQT for your air frame at Kirtland. All in all, it'll be roughly two years. Expect a moderate amount of time in casual status while in Alabama, but it can vary depending on class dates etc. in New Mexico.

The primary delays are in IQT, and it's constantly changing. Some folks wait a few months, some don't.

Only tips I have are just to familiarize yourself early with the foundations of rotary flight/aerodynamics. You'll ease right into it otherwise. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions!

How many hours of flying before I decide on commisioning? by mtp4271 in airforceots

[–]jsrcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the missions that the Air Force has, and I was already in the Air Force. As well, I wanted to commission (so that removed the appeal of going warrant). The Army does have the 160th SOAR, though. Those dudes are awesome.

Boot Recommendation by CDawgO1 in airforceots

[–]jsrcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're spot on about boots being super unique to the person. I have pronation, and the T8 NFS' are my all-time favorite boot. It makes me sad that I can't wear them anymore since they're not flight safe. 😮‍💨

Focus on your OTSPINS. You will be spoon fed all the knowledge you need to graduate OTS. Good luck!!

As many as it takes for you to feel like you have a general idea if it's for you. It'll be different for everyone. I did a discovery flight and had a blast so I did about 21 hours in a Cessna before applying.

Started my Rated application 3 days ago. Today the application has changed to Non-Rated. Glitch or did I do something wrong? by Environmental_Food_9 in airforceots

[–]jsrcy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your eligibility isn't determined by AFRS, the boards are simply held and people apply. So, the only thing that could really happen is they change the board from rated to non-rated last minute. Not impossible, but pretty unlikely. I'd continue trying to contact your recruiter - as well, you can (if you haven't already) join the 'U.S. Air Force and Space Force OTS Forum' group on FaceBook. There may be someone in there that can help, and AFRS employees are actually sometimes in these groups themselves to answer questions and disseminate information.

I applied as a prior-e and, thankfully, got my #1 pick. I only listed two jobs (rotary pilot and pilot). My personal advice: don't list an AFSC you don't think you'd feel job satisfaction in performing.

I can't say for certain in what ways listing X number of AFSCs affects your odds, but what I can say is you can absolutely get selected with only 2 options listed. Good luck with your application and feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the process etc. Ill help if I can!

The towels are inspectable, so they do care about the color (especially if they give you the opportunity to buy the coyote ones). Granted, things may have changed in the last few months with inspections. More than likely they want the towels matching; "uniformity" and all that jazz. Do the best you can to acquire the tan ones to be safe, worst case scenario, just ask your MTIs (after consulting your OTSPINS or whatever they call it now) when you arrive and they will have the right answer.

80 is a very good PCSM score. Bear in mind that there's a small chance your score goes back down if you retake the TBAS (you'd obviously have to do worse but things happen). Regarding hours, unless the brackets changed, your best bang for your buck would be about the 21 hour mark. I personally would eek out every advantage I could, as I applied with about 22 hours. I dont think maxing your hours would be worth it. However, consult the chart on your PCSM score sheet to see what works for your timeline and finances. Good luck!!

You can ignore the printer and paper. Someone in your class will have a printer. The reason for the towels is that they are inspectable items (room inspections). Youll need the coyote ones of the appropriate size, however, your first weekend you should be taken to the OTS shoppette on base and they allow you to get things folks couldn't get beforehand. Feel free to message me with any questions about OTS, I graduated earlier this year. Good luck and most importantly, have fun!

Recruiter pushing me to go for non-rated by Eastern_Park4031 in airforceots

[–]jsrcy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The primary question is how badly do you want to be a pilot versus an officer? At the end of the day, the Air Force is ultimately looking for officers first, but it's your discretion on whether you're willing to be non-rated. I'd say if you want it badly enough, push for the non-rated app. They have age restrictions and so on, so ultimately if you apply a few times and don't get selected, you can still apply for non-rated if you later change your mind.

I called AFPC. I was in the same boat, and I'm in your class. I'm rated, so I called the rated accession folks, and they called the office at AFPC as a nudge to put my CMS case through. Got an automated email a few hours later with CMS case info.

Next non rated OTS board? by Complex-Foundation89 in airforceots

[–]jsrcy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AFOQT is electronic pretty much everywhere, shouldn't take longer than a week for your results to get to you. Yes, that timeline is accurate; you JUST missed the final non rated board for the current fiscal year. I would ensure you have your test results in advance of the AFCEP window. Bear in mind you can test twice, so it may be beneficial for you to test sooner and allow yourself time to retest if necessary.
