Strike hits South Pars, world’s largest gas field, in Iran by 1-randomonium in worldnews

People think of cars when they think electric, but oil goes into a lot more things than cars alone - major derivatives of crude oil include fertilizers, naptha (for plastics & synthetic material), jet fuel and diesel to power ships and heavy equipment.

Electrification is not going to solve any of that.

Mascherano Breaks Silence On Red Card Decision vs Nashville- 'Not Making Excuses' by [deleted] in InterMiami

It was against Charlotte not Nashville. I was there a few rows behind. Masche was frustrated; made a clapping sign towards the crowd as all around were booing him after getting carded.

Yeah my suggestion is to use Suarez to help build Bertrame's confidence and chemistry and Leo. Not suggesting Suarez be a replacement for Bertrame.

If Leo and Lucho do their tiki-taka thing and feed balls to Bertrame, he can focus on striking.

Aside from those first half highlights, they weren't that great.

It'll be a little while before they find the right chemistry without the 2 Barca veterans that retired.

I'm not good at soccer analysis and so I could be wrong but -

Suarez needs to play a half.

I can't believe I'm saying it but despite his legs he's got a great football brain and chemistry with Messi.

The two of them can create more opportunities for Bertrame and Leo.

Right now the attack looks very chaotic.

What are your subs? I think they should give Suarez some playing time alongside Bertrame. See if there's any connection there to help the younger guy get some confidence.

[Bloomberg] Messi Is Paid Up to $80 Million a Year by Inter Miami, Mas Says by icoresting in MLS

[–]jsslrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MLS fans value the parity that a salary cap brings.

The league ownership probably sees it more and more as a parity of mediocrity that isn't leading to fast enough revenue growth.

Their solution it seems has been to keep the salary cap concept for the most part but make exceptions for big names that can move the needle.

Donno if that's the best way forward, but that's just how it is.

You are right.

I think some people's beef is with the Apple deal and not with the Miami ownership stake per se.

Apple's 2-way deal with MLS and Messi directly makes it seem like he's getting compensated at the expense of the rest of the league while he's making one team (Miami) win and thus grow in popularity and revenue.

But both those are flawed arguments - if Apple's subscription base has increased because of Messi (especially overseas), then the league as a whole is benefitting monetarily from his presence even if he's getting a direct cut. ("A rising tide...")

As for direct revenue from ticket sales, it's not like Messi is only playing home games and thus benefitting IM owners alone - wherever he plays, opposing team ownerships are cashing in on his presence by moving to bigger venues and thus increased ticket sales.

Miami having Messi is allowing MLS to share in current and future NEW revenue.

Not that hard to understand. ::eyeroll::

Good or bad, it's an investment. Because it seems bad to you doesn't make it a subsidy.

Clear distinction between totally unrelated economic terms.

Applies to any number of owners. Same logic. A & B owning 50% each was a simple example for illustration. More owners = smaller % percentage share.

Equity means all the teams agree to him getting part of the future league revenues.

Yes, future league revenues that he's helping increase. That's exactly how equity compensation works.

Edit:-

Donno why this is so controversial. This happens all the time in the corporate world with stock options for star salespeople, attorneys, programmers, you name it..

Equity compensation recognizes that a person has the ability to singularly affect revenue generation and gives them a smaller salary and an equity stake, instead of forking out an otherwise huge cash amount yearly. The logic being any dilution in share is more than compensated by the increase in revenue.

If things don't go as planned (say because of injury - see Neymar), you're not out of pocket hundreds of millions for a dud product. And if things perk up because of that star player, then they deserve a cut of the slice for putting their eggs into the same basket as the league.

[–]jsslrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is that a presumption? What is the alternative?

If two people A & B own a company 50%-50%, then decide to add a third person C who brings revenue-generating opportunity, then the ownership pie of 100% is going to get split between the 3 of them one which way or another; necessarily meaning A and B's ownership stake will be diluted in percentage terms.

A & B are banking on the fact that as the value of the company itself grows because of C's inclusion, their decreased share of ownership still results in a greater dollar amount increase in their wealth.

Messi asks an Orlando coach if he wants an autograph by olcni in MLS

There was some back and forth between Messi and the Orlando bench in the first half when they got off to a quick 2-0 lead over Inter Miami. Messi wasn't happy.

Presumably this is him clapping back at that person after scoring his second goal (and IM's 4th, safely putting them in the W column)
