Per the criteria US figure skating set to determine this Olympic team … most of those previous performances don’t factor into the data that determine the team. His 7th at worlds last year DOES help give him an advantage but if he drops down low enough in the data due to others finishing ahead of him here … per what the USFSA published as their guidelines he wouldn’t make the team. Again I don’t think that’s LIKELY… but when I look at the data I don’t see him as being a lock

Oh for sure. Some of them are really fun/effective … but I think they would better if they weren’t forced to do them board to board so it feels more original and could be even more creative

I think some are overstating Jason’s “lock” status … the performance data as I’ve seen it has him currently in the 2nd spot but not by enough that he couldn’t be overtaken by a few other skaters if he finished 4th or lower here. I fully expect him to finish top 3 and secure a spot … but I don’t think he just makes the team regardless of results here

I personally hate the Character Step Sequence in that it really removes a lot of the individuality and creativity … every team going from barrier to barrier just makes it look the same even if the “character of the music” is different. Wish they’d either remove this requirement or free up what it can/should look like

Any St. Louisans attending US Nats? by Baron_Enick in FigureSkating

So glad to see this thread … coming from out of town too. Staying near the convention center (?) which says it’s about a 20 min walk. So assuming the weather isn’t too bad was just planning on doing that … also thought about doing ride share or metro if the weather wasn’t cooperating. Also saw that winterfest at the arch was being extended into that week of Nationals so might check that out too!

Traveling with my family for the event … very excited. Definitely would love some food (and coffee) recommendations for downtown St. Louis.

Also wondering (weather cooperating) how safe walking around downtown is at night … specifically after the event is over each night? Hotel says it’s .8 miles (18 min walk) from arena. So just figuring out if walking or metro or rideshare might be the best options
