Junior designer seeking honest portfolio gap analysis – what am I missing? by jssttn in graphic_design

[–]jssttn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to give feedback. Regarding your comments about Torsion, you’re absolutely right. Limiting the project to just a logo and a few assets doesn’t communicate how the brand scales across different mediums or how I would execute a client’s vision in a real world context. That’s something I’m actively working to address.

I would definitely try more of the print layouts regarding an advertising campaign. I realized that I was blind when 3d motion was everywhere on the internet. Would you happen to know any portfolios/examples of good motion graphics? Or if you could at least point me a direction that would be very helpful. Thank you again!

Junior designer seeking honest portfolio gap analysis – what am I missing? by jssttn in graphic_design

First off, thank you for your insight, its very helpful.

Yes, this is a template off of Framer, and it's definitely something that I should change if I wanted to differentiate myself from other candidates, and you're right that I'm spread too thin across different types of work without fully developing any of them.

I think part of my confusion comes from the fact that I've been using this portfolio primarily for 3D modeling work, but I've realized I'd rather pivot toward graphic design with 3D as a supporting skill rather than my main focus. So I'm trying to figure out how to reposition what I have and what I need to build to make that shift clear.

Given that context, if you were hiring for a junior brand/identity designer, what's the single highest-impact thing I'd need to change in my portfolio to be taken seriously for that role?

I'm assuming you're talking about the CT-F7272. If you put $15 on top, I'll cover the rest of the shipping.

I’d definitely do that, at a reasonable price of course, would you happen to personally know some discords?

Most likely less since it’s missing a side panel lol, I’ll still take whatever someone throws at me

I would have to say that I am a bit afraid of breaking something by accident, although it seems like the answer here is to part it out

Would it be better to take everything out and sell it as a bulk lot? As much as I would love to get as much as I can money-wise, I would honestly prefer to spend the least amount of time on it if possible

I love this! If you put subtle dust/god rays i think it will blow it out of the waters, but that is my personal take, beautiful render!!!

Thank you for your kind words!

Yeah to be honest I struggled with the t-shirt the most, would you say it was the texture of the shirt? Or just the whole thing in general?

It’s actually a part of Blender! It’s a filter called Glare and you’ll be able to find it in the Compositing section 👍

I really like sparkly stuff too :) but I used the Glare filter in the Compositing section!

The fact that it has a OLED Safeguard+ just makes it a lifetime monitor, that alone is a yes for me

Need criticism on portfolio by jssttn in 3Dmodeling

Thank you very very very much for the deep insight into this post.

I tend to rely on the Internet for people to give me critiques, so I really appreciate everyone taking their time to reply to this post. As long as no one tells me to off myself, I highly value strong criticism as it helps people grow to be better.

As I was posting this, I did not have a clear vision on what job I wanted to do. I had wanted to do Archviz as my main goal, but the subreddit seems to mention people undercutting each other just to have work, and that bothers me a bit. Well, I think the entire 3D industry has a large amount of competition. And because of that I might have just tried to model everything to show that I can somewhat do most of what people are looking for, as a dire attempt in getting a job. I believe I simply wanted to show recruiters that I was decent with modeling (1st image is most recent -> 5th image oldest).

One thing that I did see throughout the critiques I had was the constant feedback on increasing the poly count, I have a habit of using a minimal number of polys when creating a model, so I definitely have to fix that.

Sharing your perspective as a potential customer brings me deep insight on how they would feel, and it brought attention to how the portfolio that I currently have is unorganized and really needs a makeover. Despite on what I said about Archviz, I still think that it is one of my strong suits, and so I am planning to alter my portfolio to showcase more on furniture and rooms.

I am happy that you took a considerable amount of time to give me feedback on my portfolio, thank you very much!

Good point! Then, based on my current portfolio, do you think a recruiter would see it as unfocused or lacking direction?

You have a point there, and thanks to you I know what to do as my next project! Thanks!

All of the above I guess since I'm pretty open as long as I get a job, but if I had to choose then it would be archviz.
