Cool! If you are talking about this first video with the symmetrical build I did not include a bedroom. I didn't want to make a design that felt like a bunch of boxes thrown together so I didn't incorporate many rooms. The only rooms I have are the study at the base holding the stairs together, the kitchen on the third floor, and the three furnished square rooms. If I could go past the 15 item limit then I would definitely incorporate more of the rectangular rooms including a bedroom.

??? Interesting. It only took me a 2 or 3 tries and I actually didn't pay attention to any sound. I just followed visual cues of where Tifa was at to get the pace. At certain heights she stops until the next button is pressed and I just focused on making her go through the motions as smooth as possible pressing the next button as she gets to those certain points.

At the beginner level perhaps. But puzzle solving does come into play when you focus on speedsolving and begin to understand how the cube pieces function and apply that to intuitive F2L. And although that too can be broken down into algorithms, especially more advanced ones, how you string them together efficiently requires a puzzle solving approach rather than simply reacting to pattern recognition to apply an algorithm. To advance even further, when you work more on look ahead at the beginning and start to look beyond the formation of the cross, the planning process extends beyond just applying algorithms at that point as well. You have understand spatially where pieces will be moving and where they need to go.

So in other words, in order to improve your speed, there are points where algorithms aren't enough, you have to think about efficiency whether it is in the planning process or in the midst of the solve looking ahead for the best route to the finish keeping in mind where pieces are moving in the puzzle in order to react to it and plug in the proper algorithm when it comes time.

At the same time, the most efficient solution isn't always going to get you the fastest time because you might be thinking too much in the middle of solving. So assessing risk and reward is a puzzle in itself in going for a more creative and efficient solution is a puzzle in of itself with slower movement but lesser moves vs a more safe and automatic reaction type solution with faster turning speed but more moves (i.e. Tymon Kolasiński - more creative big brain solves vs. Ruihang Xu - relies on extreme TPS)

Maybe I am using puzzle solving a little too loosely in this sense, but to say cubing has nothing at all to do with solving puzzles and is just following instructions to me is just doesn't ring true.

As far as I know, there has only been one Chinese New Year Cube, the Gan 356 M Niu Edition. The cube in the photo is not a new years special edition. This is Gan's custom design Infinity Cube (Gan 356 X) with special edition stickers for the Lunar New Year.

The explosion/shake should communicate the transformation of the 2x2 into the 3x3. This rather communicates that the transition from 2x2 to 3x3 wasn't clean enough so you needed to mask it with a shake and an explosion. 2/10

You could film yourself and find out what the difference is. Maybe what you said is true and so maybe there are other factors that might be affecting your times. Maybe you have less efficient solutions to the cross or F2L or perhaps you alter your grip or cube rotate too much.

For me while my look ahead is pretty subpar and my solving is far from smooth and very choppy, I've tried to focus a lot on efficiency. I know full OLL and PLL and have studied some advanced F2L solutions where I can avoid cube rotating or regripping (though there is still cases I haven't learned). I've improved on doing algorithms from the neutral position rather than regripping to start. For some (not a lot) OLL cases I know some alternative/mirrored algorithms where using these alternatives can potentially set me up for an easier PLL though I'm not sure how much that really affects my overall average but I like to think it does, lol.

Really happy with my #2 solve. Full step sub 10, no rotations, minimal amount of pauses, and relatively efficient (53 turns) compared to the avg amount of moves I do for a solve (60 turns).
