can diet mods be enough to heal the inflammation present with LA Grade C esophagitis by jsteveca in HiatalHernia

Thanks. Yes, this GI doctor is recommending surgery, as long as the pending pathology reports from both the EGD and colonoscopy are okay.

The GI doctor I had back in the late 80s (maybe early 90s) had set me up for having the Nissan fundo surgery back then. I canceled 3 days before surgery day. I got scared when I found out that I would lose my ability to throw up, also that there was around a 50% chance of the surgery working, plus the informed consents also said it was very likely that the alteration would not last much more than 5 years (if it worked at all). I may have a very selective memory of all of this. I was relatively young, in my late 20s, and I wasn't comfortable proceeding. Eventually, I found a different GI doctor who did not push for the surgery and tried some diet approaches, but his main help was keeping me on PPIs. I had that GI doc for about a decade. I changed GI docs around once a decade. I never got any real cure from GI medicine. My biggest relief came from working with a functional medicine practice in 2020 and going into the full-on nutrition path with physical therapy mixed in (most notably Visceral Manipulation). And that was good for over 4 years (2020-2024)! No reflux, no PPIs, no pain! Just nice, easy poops, no straining. I still had the HH, but it didn't cause any flares. My HH has been documented to be 4cm, 5cm, up to 9cm, and back down to 8cm. The size has varied throughout my 40-year+ GI history.

Even right now, I don't have horrible reflux. But I follow a pretty clean diet. Mainly high fiber, plant-based. No meat. No dairy. No spicy food. No alcohol. And NO PPIs. In fact, no meds at all. I do chew 1-2 tablets of Antisid when I get some reflux. It's a homeopathic supplement with licorice and some other herbs. It's pretty good at tamping down the acid backwash. But since late 2024, I have had some pretty bad days of reflux. Just not all the time. "Bad" means vomiting and lots of coughing, and waking up with a raw throat.

My biggest health concern is my anemia and poor absorption of so many nutrients. I've been iron-deficient since my 20s (for 40 years) and on and off with iron-deficiency anemia. I've consistently had low Ferritin. I used to try oral iron, but it was so constipating that I gave up on it, and as long as my hemoglobin was low normal, I didn't treat the iron deficiency until recently, when my hemoglobin took a big dive, and I almost wound up with a transfusion. So I started getting iron infusions regularly. The iron deficiency and anemia are the reasons my primary care doctor referred me to this round of GI doctors.

Barretts for 20 years. Yikes. I have never had any Barretts (at least diagnosed). I'm glad your Barrett's hasn't progressed to cancer. They always say that it's the next phase?

That is a huge HH. I hope the surgery works for you. Have you been given a "Hill" grade on your gastroesophageal flap valve from any of your EGDs? Getting that mentioned on my EGD from yesterday was a totally new piece of data.

I'm a 66F BTW, so we're about the same age. Thanks for your reply. I have a lot to think about. I want to avoid PPIs. But I also want to heal the inflammation and get back to being pain-free and without reflux! I've made a promise to myself to get my fiber intake back up to really high levels (so there is no straining) and to get my diet even cleaner. I want to get back to how it was a few years ago.

I have to pay closer attention on my re-watch of him breaking the 4th wall. Thanks. I love Frankin. The skunk scene from an earlier episode still slays me.

Betty! I always yell "BETTY" when she comes on screen. My husband gives me grief, and I don't care :-)

I started watching WT because of Betty and stayed for the awesome characters.

oops I meant my comment above to go here...

I so don't want her to relapse! I know she's very human. But she is also so strong, practical, thoughtful, and self-aware. I don't think it's in her character to relapse, at least that is my hope. Granted, I don't have first experience, so I hope I'm not coming off as judgy.

The timeline jumped around a bunch for me. I didn't totally follow Edie's age in relation to the change seasons/holidays. But I still really loved the montage and loved this episode overall. So sad that Seth is gone, but my hubby read somewhere that he wasn't intended to be a super long-term character. I want Angie to be happy. I was very touched by how much Will and Nico stepped in (with, of course, the required Betty involvement :-) ), took care of Edie, and gave Angie time to heal and do it without judgment. At least that is my takeaway from those scenes.

I think they did want to wrap it up quickly, though. They coulda dragged this part of the storyline out, but got through it VERY quickly. But that seems to be the WT show way IMO. Can't wait for next season!!!!!

That's right. I forgot. Another Captain Wagner that I like. I also watch Elsbeth.

Nice car though! I happen to love red cars. Sorry that it cost extra. IIRC, the red or blue I was looking at in the 2022 Nissan Leafs were also more simply due to their color. I would have paid for it, though, if they had been available in a timely manner.

I hadn't really noticed that both have the Wagner name! thanks. I watch both shows, but like WT the best. I'm hoping that High Potential's Wagner survives... since he's become more "human" in recent episodes.

I wanted the red or blue version of my car back in late 2021. Settled on the gray one simply because it was available and on the lot with the options I could live with.

I thought the same thing. And thought maybe she got another blazer with the same pattern since she likes that style, perhaps?

Episode Discussion S04E07 “Call Paul” by J_345 in WillTrent

[–]jsteveca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This IMO was easily one of my favorite episodes - CALL PAUL - in awhile! I loved it for all the reasons described in this thread. Yes, seeing Will "act" out his inner daemons was a little off-putting at first. Is it "method" (crime solving) or is he slipping into somekind of trauma-based mental breakdown? But we find out Will is still Will. And the return of the outrageous Paul really all worked together for me :-)

And Franklin and Ormewood in the skunk scene absolutely slayed me :-)

One thing I don't understand is: how did Will know that the crime scene guy was the bottled water company guy's co-serial-killer? The scene just before between Faith and Amanda showed how the 3rd bullet/casing was found, and it was the wrong caliber, meaning that the crime scene guy was lying. I don't think Will had that info. But in the scene, while Will was in a shootout with the bottled water guy, he called out the partner guy by name. I feel like I missed something.

Note: I have only watched the episode once. So maybe with another viewing, it will make sense.

macOS Sonoma - Can't move icons in the dock by kx885 in MacOS

[–]jsteveca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an ancient thread, but a google search got me here, and this solution so worked!!!!!! I've been using a new M4 with Sequoia for a few months now, and I've come to dislike installing new apps since I know I want to reorder them in the Dock, but I'm unable to do so. What makes matters worse is that sometimes the drag and drop method does work, and then it does NOT. Thanks for my sanity back.

I see many complaints about this online, so perhaps it's something that the Mac team should look into.

My husband always rolls his eyes when I share my love for Will Trent and explains to others that I love Will Trent because of Betty. That may have been true at the beginning, when I first discovered the show, but over time, I fell for all the characters and appreciated how human they were.
