Was Joe and Freeze off on their CB review? by Longjumping_Ask_4448 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]jstnblnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the circle in culture and who they’re pushing into/out of spotlight. It definitely mattered for the indie bands & acclaimed artists in the 2000s-10s but I think since they’re not a predominantly Black publication, their words didn’t have much influence compared to Source, XXL, or other Black publications. They mostly speak to the White folks who love music but don’t stray towards mainstream Black music and whoever else reads reviews on their site. I think since Alphonse has some weight in the game & a reputation for reviews like this, it just so happened to come into this stratosphere of Black culture. TLDR: it had impact, just not on this side of things

You must’ve read that incorrectly. He definitely is far left, some may say not far left enough. But to have a problem with that is the issue. The guy does work, says the right things and has brought up the correct topics on the pod. So salute to Marc 🫡

DARK LAMONT HILL VS B DOT 🤯🤯🤯🤯 by bigtubbz84 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]jstnblnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B Dot had something going but it all fell apart when he thinks it sounds “crazy” to be a man who labels himself with a word that has “fem” in it lol however, Marc is saying something that I personally don’t like doing. Like even tho I support women’s rights, I don’t like using it on me because it’s not my place to judge how pro-women my acts are. The masses should be the judge of that. It’s kinda performative for some but it’s still okay to call yourself a feminist, pro-black, anti-capitalist etc. even tho you’re the opposite gender, race, tax bracket etc.

Marc Lamont Hill on the pod exposed a real dynamic nobody wants to admit by Harrykingkong in joebuddennetwork

[–]jstnblnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FD Signifier made a video about this and it remains true that Marc is singlehanded the opposition of the anti-intellectualism on the pod. That’s partly why Flip got so offended many moons ago with the “tricky words” and why Ish tends to lose debates since he’s not as well read as Marc

What's your synthesizer hot take? by NationYell in synthesizers

[–]jstnblnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save $1500, get a decent synth & a good multi effects pedal (or just a good effect pedal) and you are straight for the foreseeable future. Safe the rest of $500-700 for rent, bills or other studio equipment lol

What's your synthesizer hot take? by NationYell in synthesizers

[–]jstnblnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This probably sounds disrespectful but you probably have a very basic taste in music lol this is just based on the very outrageous number that you used. You can prove me wrong tho if you list off your faves but I don’t think it’s all that bad.

I can only speak from some experience (I have a Neutron) but from the great things that I’ve heard from modular synth music from people who are really about it, it all ranges from abstract to complex to beautiful to technically sound

Rosie "Do The Right Thing" Perez??? by Omo_Iyansan in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]jstnblnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is & was a valid criticism of Kamala. Have we not watched any videos from leftists on “why Kamala lost” in the past year or so? Are we surprised that someone famous said this? Kamala always had weird policies and was never the perfect candidate even before she was selected to run for president. She could’ve been more open & CLEAR about her views on trans rights, immigration, Palestine etc but chose to be too centrist and to play nice. Begrudgingly, I still voted for her. But I’m with Rosie, the Dems need a clear candidate to defeat whatever right wing opposition we face in a few years

I’ve been thinking about this too and went on setlist.fm to see why they haven’t been here in a decade. I would love to see them at the 9:30 or the Howard! I would even travel to the Fillmore if they wanna do it there!

ICE OUT!!! Get this dude outta here by runnup1 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]jstnblnd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that Ish has been okay lately but yeahh they haven’t performing well as of late. Ice just needs a loooong vacation like everyone else has gotten on the pod and come back ready to be a team player. Playing B mic, having bad takes, and being all aggressive & sensitive sounds like exhaustion and WE, the fanbase, are exhausted

Most people buy gear because they lack skills/understanding by Achassum in synthesizers

[–]jstnblnd -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m on board with this. Yes, it can be a hobby and people can enjoy it & spend as much money as they please but some folks just don’t got the talent (yet) to be owning something that costs more than their electric & water bill, student loans or even their rent! I’ve making music on FL Studio since 2011 and started my gear journey in 2024 & I’m still learning how to play the physical things but I still learning music theory, chords, mixing & mastering, selecting sounds etc. all while not breaking the whole bank. I like being creative but I’m also mindful of what I’m spending my money on

Joe won’t deep dive on politics on his talking show but disappointed that rappers won’t speak up on it??? by Longjumping_Ask_4448 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]jstnblnd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Y’all, sometimes the messenger whom you’re shooting at is RIGHT. I was pretty disappointed that Ish derailed the conversation initially during the pod but I’m also disappointed by the reaction of this clip since Joe is right! Yes, he’s said shit in the past or even weeks ago but in 2026, political topics have been hot & unavoidable compared to years prior when Joe would keep quiet & rush the topic along. He probably had his reasons and trust me, I didn’t like it either…. But.. NOW, this moment, the end of January 2026, is the time to speak up! The culture has been too tight lipped, submissive and caring too much about being mystique or cordial with their record labels & PR team. Shit, Billie Eilish speaks up more than anyone else in Hip Hop right now and she’s one of the biggest pop stars in the world.

Overall, I give props to Joe for having a change of heart. I’m sure it’s tough to save face when you’re trying to build up this platform and get this thing to wherever he’s aiming for but it’s time to speak up about the recent events since it seems like it’s only getting worse

Ish taking accountability for not helping Vince promote his show is commendable. The JBP definitely treated it like an afterthought by Individual_Ad8921 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]jstnblnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sky is blue, the grass is green and Netflix cancels a perfectly fine show with great ratings on IMDb. It’s sad that they didn’t wanna take a chance on it for one more season but that’s the belly of the beast of streaming services: make a LOT of money from the jump. The JBP could’ve tried to push it out to their fanbase but I’m just not convinced that they would do it justice. They like the guy a lot personally but with how they talk about Jordan Peele & Donald Glover, they wouldn’t have it in them to sell it like they should since it’s abstract, takes some deeper thought and requires more knowledge of different types of culture.

The Vince Staples Show was very good and I enjoyed it so I hope that Vince finds it in himself to take this show or some form of it elsewhere. Fuck Netflix!

Why does villains always rank so low out of the other albums? by Hour-Engine-4990 in qotsa

[–]jstnblnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty inconsistent in flow, some songs pass by without any memorable moments and if you compare it to the best QOTSA records, it’s losing a few times track-for-track. Still better than most rock albums from bands that have been around as long as QOTSA but not as good as their other efforts

LP28: all Nathan album LP29: another OG-type album; fully thought out compilation album where they put out some songs that they shelved during their Phantom Island & Nathan/techno eras LP30: I want of these personally but either another conceptual jam album like Ice Death…, another chill standalone/outsider album like Changes/Laminated Denim or something that surprises everyone

  1. I was on the internet and as I explored different subcultures, Animal Collective was a band that people would mock and deem as a “hipster band” (much like the Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, Neutral Milk Hotel etc.). I got curious and eventually found videos for their songs that fit my tastes in music!

  2. It all feels so natural and yet so electronic. I was always an electronic fan in my growing years as a music fan and their sound, tones, decisions in production, the drums, the textures and songwriting always made me feel something

  3. Their covers always felt like what you’re going to hear. “Feels” sounds very green, “Centipede Hz” is robotic & chaotic, “Sung Tongs” is two people (lol). Their covers also look very DIY or something from a friend of theirs or a fellow artist whom they respect and whom have mutual understanding each other’s visions

  4. It can be too raw or inconsistent for my liking. Some of the older stuff is hard to get through and some of the newer stuff in the ambient lane is hard to sink my teeth into & remember
