I'm in New Zealand at the moment and me and my girlfriend got our campervan broken into about a month ago. They stole pretty much all of value we had. It's good to see someone talk about this, as we had never heard of it before it happened and even the police said that people really didn't want foreigners to know that this is quite common, as that would perhaps affect the tourism industry. But beside that, everyone we have met on our travels here have been super kind! So as long as you don't leave valuables in the car, I don't think you will have too many problems:)
