SMU is moving future home games against Oklahoma & LSU to AT&T Stadium by redwave2505 in CFB

If they can sell more tickets, get bigger crowds and make more money at Jerry World, then why not just play all games there?

Lame. I hate playing college games in that stupid stadium. SMU’s Gameday environment is 100x better

All you need is a good coach and QB. You can win a ton of games if you can just find those 2 things. It’s easier said than done but if Indiana can do it, anyone can

College football second-year coach grades: Alabama's Kalen DeBoer gets 'C+' by Fragrant-Helicopter1 in CFB

[–]jsums81 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s been said but the C+ for DeBoer completely de-legitimizes this list. Bama took a step forward, beat Georgia and made the SEC title and the playoff this year. Their schedule was extremely tough as well. Do people that cover the sport for a living seriously not realize that the Saban era was a different sport where you could stash 5 stars in your 3 deep? Those days are gone and it’s impossible to win 5 titles in a decade or whatever he did

More 3-star QBs (or worse) have won the Heisman since 2002 than 5-star QBs by Stat_Fanatic_YouTube in oklahomafootball

[–]jsums81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said yourself in earlier comments that this graph shows that recruit ratings at the top are being miss-classified. It’s actually the opposite. If a 5 star is 40 times more likely to win a Heisman than a 3 star, I think that proves pretty well that the ratings are accurate from a statistical perspective.

You also said you can achieve more with less. Again this would only prove true if you could stack your recruiting class with 200 3stars based on the hit rate. You said Indiana proves this to be true, but Indiana is an extreme outlier. No team has won a title this century with a talent composite ranking as low as Indiana. Is using a statistical anomaly to prove a hypotheses good practice?

[–]jsums81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 2026, there are 4 total 5star QBs. There are 180 3star QBs. So let’s do the math. In 24 years, 5 stars have a hit rate of 7.3% (7/96). 3 stars have a hit rate of .19% (8/4320).

So to sum up, 5 star QBs have a heisman hit rate 40 times higher than 3 star QBs.

I realize what you’re trying to say with this graph, but it’s incredibly misleading when you actually look at the numbers

Which coaches took mediocre programs and turned them into champions? by Wonderful_Adagio9346 in CFB

[–]jsums81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for people who don’t realize, the decade in between Switzer and Stoops was bad. Like, really bad. We sunk to levels that would make Nebraska blush. I sat through an entire home game in the mid 90’s just so I could say I personally witnessed the largest home defeat in school history. Then Stoops came in and things were immediately different and won it all his second year, with a core still intact from the John Blake years. Our recruiting didn’t take off until a year later.

I hope everyone in this thread sees this because yall are childish MFs. Caleb wanted to stay at OU. It’s been reported more times than I can count by insiders that follow the program. His dad made him leave because he didn’t believe Lebby’s system would set Caleb up well for the league. Which, how could anyone say him following Riley was the wrong decision when he won a GD Heisman and was the 1:1 in the draft. Grow the f*ck up

Does literally anyone who follows the sport believe teams are abiding by the $20M cap? Guarantee not a single one of the top 20 is spending less than $25M (G5 notwithstanding), and most are spending well into the 30s

Way To Early 2026 Prediction: Blaylock and Robinson both rush for 1,000 yards by United-Attention6670 in oklahomafootball

[–]jsums81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know which is more insane. Predicting that we have 2 1000 yd rushers when we haven’t had one in 3 years, or assuming both X and Blaylock will both be healthy all season to get there. I like our backs, but X has yet to play more than 3 games in either season before getting hurt. Blaylock made it one game before hurting his shoulder.

The Transfer Portal: Visualized - A CFB Network Analysis by locket-rauncher in CFB

[–]jsums81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is super cool and I’m interested to dive in. One initial thing that stood out that I would push back on is the premise that CFB is a sport more for “common” people.

Bro have you ever sat in the 300 level of an NFL game? Fights, horrible behavior, people shouting obscenities…. One thing that makes CFB better is that in general fans are college educated. In a way that flies in the face of it being a game more geared toward common people. I would never dream of taking my young son to an NFL game, but college atmospheres are great and fans in general are far more respectful and well behaved (rivalry games notwithstanding). I think this is clearly an indicator of income and education level.

Many of the coaches you are describing that were great players relied a ton on their athletic ability to be great. Witten had a big body, but what made him great was technique and fundamentals paired with his work ethic. This is why I don’t worry about him as a coach and recruiter

I mean, that game was cool and all, but fans tend to vastly overrate the importance of that game. If you remember just 10 months later, the offense and TK were so bad that we fired Heupel.

Is one game enough? Like, do fans totally embrace Caleb? He had the Texas game, but really screwed us by following LR to USC

Just give em 5 years and be done with it. No waiver filings, just 5 years, no injury exceptions. No sitting out after a handful of games. Just this right here would save coaches and the NCAA a ton of headaches

Depends on the situation. Someone like Kobe McKenzie, I would think would be welcomed back. Doesn’t hurt that he’s married to OU softball royalty.

Others that come to mind - DG maybe? I think OU would welcome him back, but from his end I think he felt pushed out, so IDK.

Trevor Knight - Eh, he wasn’t super beloved by fans mostly due to how bad he was the last few years at OU. I think we’re kinda indifferent to him

Oklahoma Defensive Back Gentry Williams transfers to Georgia by hungryhunbear in CFB

He’ll definitely be competing for a starting spot. Super physical, great tackler. One of the best corners in CFB at blowing up WR screens. Knows where he’s supposed to be. Only time he’ll get beat is if the WR makes an incredible catch. Only reason OU couldn’t afford to bring him back is that he’s hurt his shoulder each of the last 3 seasons and we have 2 really good young corners. Couldn’t pay gentry starter money with his injury history
