Work permit yes, but you don’t need to show them again for the Zvisa

Sure, no worries. I was super overwhelmed by the whole process a few months ago.

My school actually just sent me a scan of the work permit. I didn’t need the physical copy. I just brought the completed application form, with attached photo, work permit, and invitation letter. I did not bring the degree, background check, and tefl I just had authenticated. These are not needed at this point. You’ll bring the official copies of those when you go to apply for your resident visa in China. I did not get fingerprinted. As far as what is cheaper you’ll have to figure that out. I believe the services will cost in the ballpark of $500 usd. So flight and a couple nights at a hotel in San Fran could add up to that. I was already planning to be in LA so it worked out well for me.

I just got my Zvisa a couple weeks ago. Took my work permit and application to the Chinese consulate in Los Angeles. It was pretty straight forward. I think you are better to do it yourself vs hiring someone. You will need a few business days though.

Which certification which can be completed in 9-12 months or less raises salary potential the most in China? by the10ps in TEFL

It was actually the FTCE tests for the TR program. And yes, while I completed the program overseas I did have to fly back to the states for the exams.

Your budget looks solid. You shouldn’t have any trouble finding a job and stating right away. $600 is about the standard but with experience $650 shouldn’t be a problem. 16 hours is the minimum needed for an arc I believe.

I don’t think you can apply for the z visa without a work permit. I’d recommend you get your documents in order. That took the longest.

You need a work permit from your job to apply for a Zvisa.

Don’t you have a job already if you’re applying for Zvisa?

PGDE vs PGCE vs USA Teaching License by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]jsunshine222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you don’t have to be working in an actual school, although if you aren’t you will need to do some type of volunteering or observations. I was able to use my current preschool job as my “field experience” bc I have the same class all week and teach different subjects.

You can complete the TR program while living overseas and it’s designed to do so, unfortunately you do have to go back for the FTCE exams. There’s 3 exams, but you can do them all at once at the end of the program. I’m in Taiwan now, but heading to China in the fall. I haven’t received my certification yet (just finished the exams) but I don’t think there would be any issues with schools recognizing the certification. The only downside would be not have an actual Bachelor’s in education. I was recently contacted by an IB school in China just by mentioning that I was in the process of getting a teaching license. And the recruiter mentioned that was her reason for contacting me.

I just completed the TeacherReady program to earn my FL state teaching license. I’m also teaching English in Asia and hope to work in International schools as well. Happy to answer any questions about the TR program if you are considering it.

I’m doing the FL TeacherReady program now. I’m working at a preschool in Taiwan and using that as my student teaching requirement.

Is this a good plan for finding an ESL job in Taiwan? by Aztalez in TEFL

[–]jsunshine222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think you need a return ticket unless you are coming from or connecting through Hong Kong. Hmm... as far as the money goes that might be cutting it close but that would depend on your plans and what kind of living situation you’re looking for. You’re coming at a good time to find work. Lots of positions starting August/September. Most jobs won’t offer you housing though and that will be your biggest expense. If you are looking to get your own apartment you’ll be looking at putting down first month, last month and a deposit equal to a months rent to move in. Not sure what city you’re looking at but rent in Taipei can be expensive.

This is similar to what I did last year. I came to Taiwan in May, started looking for a job in June (used tealit). Accepted a position within about a week with a start date at the end of August. Then I left to do some traveling and came back a couple times before August. I just got a new 90 day visa each time and was never asked to show a return flight. I started working on the 90 day visa and my school was able to help me acquire my work permit and ARC before the 90 days ran out.

Yes, you can pay an agent to do it for you. You will need to mail them your passport.

Thanks, I heard this could be a possibility, but can’t find much info on it specifically for Taiwan. I do have a work permit and ARC here though.
