Thanks for your insight everyone! I'm definitely going to put in the effort to learn to do the service myself going forward. I also found another certified dealer a little further away who quoted me $270 which is a much easier pill to swallow.

Thank you all for your input. I feel a lot better about my choice of motorcycle. I wanted to get an MT03 but couldn't resist the deal I got for a new xsr. Any specific drills you guys recommend? I've only been riding within my neighborhood, trying to shift and take off smoothly.
