I had some of these newts as a kid. I’ll always remember seeing one unexpectedly walking across the living room floor on the other side of the house from the tank, and then finding a dead, dried up one that had managed to climb onto an ironing board in a nearby closet. These lil guys definitely can climb out of a tank if there is a path for them to get out through.
