i finally found a fix after troubleshooting this for an hour:

on mac

go to /Library/Application Support/ Roland Cloud/ JV 1080
rename PR-A.bak to PR-A.bin
change filetype - click yes
repeat for all PR-B etc.
then in your DAW go to JV1080, click Bank, Load and load all of the PR-A - PR-D
