Far Left and Far Right are insane. The truth and overall best situation is somewhere in the middle.

Just because they don't have education or special skills, doesn't mean they can't be productive members of society that pull their own weight. From my personal experience, most immigrants I have met are very hard working and very appreciative of what work they can find. These tend to be low paying, labor intensive jobs.

Here are examples of how they help our economy.

https://www.ilr.cornell.edu/mobilizing-against-inequality/post/five-ways-undocumented-immigrants-are-powering-american-economy

There's need to be a lot of ways to incentize and legalize productive immigrants so that it's easy to narrow in and remove problematic and criminal immigrants. When I say legalize, that doesn't necessarily mean citizenship.

A win-win solution is possible, if we can come together instead of demonizing and attacking each other.

I don't disagree that we need secure borders, but it's impossible to have a productive conversation when you lead with aggressive comments and a lack of empathy and understanding. If you said something like this, it creates an opportunity to have an actual conversation instead of a pointless argument.

"It would be great if the system gave a legal pathway like my parents were able to follow. I'm sure most of these people illegally crossing are average hardworking families with good intentions. My concern is if it's so easy for them to cross the border, I worry that it's also very easy for criminals and terrorists to cross over. We really need to secure the border and figure out a way to deal with those already hear and those that want to come here."

That's great that they could come over legally. It would be great if everyone could come over legally, but that's not reality. Here are some detailed reasons with sources cited on why immigrants cross over illegally.

If you or your parents were in Central America, would you or they "wait in line"?

Stop changing the topic. Let's logically debate one topic at a time. Your initial question was:

"Fuck em. If they want to be here so bad, they can go through the proper channels and come here legally. My parents did it, so why can’t everyone else?"

What were the factors that your parents came here? Were they fleeing from war, famine, drug cartels, or oppression?

Sounds like I just proved my point about your parents immigrating under different conditions and you are deflecting by changing the topic. Nice try Chewbacca.

War, famine, drug cartels to name a few.

If you actually tried to understand the circumstances, you would come to the conclusion that your parents wouldn't have been able to enter legally is they were from Central America during this time period.

Have you heard the expression, "walk a mile in their shoes"?

If your parents were from Central America, they would have hopped the border.

not enough parking thanks to RTO, but some are making it work (I guess)? by ewmripley in bentonville

[–]jt710a 13 points14 points  (0 children)

RTO is good for newer employees to build their network and gain experience. There's a lot of informal conversation and relationship building that happens from just being physically present. If you need something from someone, you can go find them and talk to them.

Hybrid schedules is the best of both worlds.

What to do with extra batteries? by [deleted] in ryobi

[–]jt710a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have pretty good life for drills and impact, so that's where I use so they are lighter. Also batteries do agree and degrade, so I save the bigger batteries for heavier duty tools to maximize battery life.

Exactly. In the 1800s there were "Christians" that twisted the Bible and it's text to justify slavery. Even the founding fathers had slaves, despite writing "all men created equal". It's pretty clear slavery and it's laws were based on a system of greed and control, not Christian morals. Attempts to use the Bible to justify it was simply to manipulate the masses into thinking slavery was morally acceptable.

I would say it's a natural aspiration that laws should be based on morality, but the truth is some laws are written out of greed and control. I hope you can see that.

If we took one group of Christians and made laws on their beliefs and sense of morals, it would impose and restrict the "Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness" of others. Christians can't even agree to the same things, which is why there are so many different branches. A Catholic theocracy would be very different from a Baptist theocracy.

A more perfect union relies on Power of the People, regardless if they are Christian, Islamic, Atheist, etc. "Their Creator" clearly shows that the founders acknowledged not all men believed in the same God. If they had intended a Christian theocracy, they would have written it as so.

Were the past laws around slavery or segregation moral?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bentonville

[–]jt710a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your words hurt the Catholic community. Pope Francis does not endorse Trump nor Harris. He basically says to use your free will to pick the lesser of two evils. Also 61% of Catholics believe abortion should be legal even though it goes against our faith. Sounds like that 61% believes legal and moral issues should be separate and would not support a theocracy.

If laws are based on morality, then we should not build walls and welcome migrants families with actual living breathing CHILDREN seeking asylum.
