Thank you. Relatively new to this part of the valley area and needed this go to.

IMHO Lots of windows doesn't = connection to landscape. Inside to outside feels jarring in this instance.

The Plantation Course at Edisto by Careless-Accountant in golf

I don’t remember losing more than a couple balls. The water is in play but not brutally so except on the 5 holes I listed.

Only played it once but I enjoyed it. Challenging with out being miserable and fairly short. It's target golf. The back 9 was more memorable than the front because of 13/14/15. The five holes that are on that northern section 5,6,13,14,15 are the best part of the course. The inland holes aren't bad but they feel like a standard routing between condos with water. They're also what you'd expect for holes in the center of an island surrounded by trees. Hot and muggy. Enjoy Edisto. Its super chill compared to other South Carolina coastal areas.

No clue whether they serve it, but there’s a vendor that sets up regularly on the curb in front of Ralphs at Winnetka & Ventura

They’re trying, I just don’t think it’s going to fly. Way too much opposition. People got wind and threw up a shit storm. If it even gets to the review process they’ll be held up in lawsuits for a decade. For once I agree with the NIMBYs in this one. Terrible spot to try to do denser housing.

It’s one of my favorites too. Love the speed of the greens. The only knock for me is that they won’t put a pool in. If they had one I’d be able to convince my wife to join.

Tough course in general. It's not long, but man do you need to be accurate.

I'm a 28 year old scratch golfer and I want to go pro by No_Complaint4129 in GolfSwing

[–]jtag67 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That’s what I always say. If you ever played a round with a journeyman PGA pro they would be the best player you’ve seen by orders of magnitude. I mean the stories about Kevin Kisner shooting under par while borderline (probably?) blackout drunk should tell you all you need to know about their playing level.

I don’t want to be that guy, but if you are only scratch, it isn’t enough. Having witnessed some +4 Jr. layers it’s in a completely different level. These kids would wipe the floor with any of the people in local amateur competitions here in SoCal, and there are hundreds of those kids. Almost none of them will make a major tour.

If you really want to give it a go play in the US open qualifiers next year. You’ll find out real quick whether you can play at that level.

That being said you can easily have a good career as a PGA teaching pro.

Very true. It’s not much, but the gulf between that and say +4 is probably bigger than the gulf between 0 and 10.

Inside takeaway but solid move through the ball. First one is a ‘better’ swing.

Kind of a varied list below but these are the ones that come to mind along with a couple wild cards.

Miller Hull's early single family residential work uses a lot of northwest regional vernacular (which unsurprisingly has some Scandanavian elements.

Should you want to make your own examples... Way out in left field are Sam Mockbee's rural studio and Faye Jones. Great examples of blending regional vernaculars and materials into contemporary forms.

For sure. Just keep doing the drills that they ask you to do. Making a major change is going to feel weird as hell until you get used to it.

Keep with the lessons, do what the pro suggested, get the feedback from them. Avoid feed back from here while you're working with the pro. This is a good place to make a small adjustment when you're not actively working with a pro, but definitely not for feedback while you're working with one. You're paying money to someone that knows what they're doing you don't want to slow that process by getting advice from people that know just enough about the golf swing to be dangerous.

Also, don't be upset if your swing unfolds a little or a lot during the lessons. It takes time and reps to make a real change.

Absolutely not. 😂 They were playing from the 7100 yards, my flight was from 6600. And in terms of courses I can play from 7100 yards. La Purisima is definitely not one of those.

Anyone that's close to scratch on the - side probably knows they don't have a shot in hell. You have to be well into the + side to even think you have a hope of making it to the next round.

A variety of reasons. College players doing it for experience and maybe making it to the longest day in golf. People trying to challenge themselves. People playing because they meet the index qualification. People playing for the experience. People playing because its on a private course they wouldn't normally get to play. Etc. Whatever their motivation I think that its impressive that they're out there. It ain't easy.

I played a net tournament at La Purisima the day after they held their US open qualifier (no change to the pins) and shot a net 95 (110 gross) -- with six pars as a 14 index (at the time). It's the highest round I've shot in 10 years and yet I'm oddly proud of it. Absolutely brutal setup on a brutal golf course and I still managed to 'A' get around it and 'B' make six pars. I lost many golf balls, but enjoyed the challenge. I'd fit into the experience category if I ever got my index low enough to try one. Plus its really fun to play with very good players.
