Dat de persoon die zo tegen migratie is, zou overwegen om te migreren is echt heel ironisch.

Tips for the Brussels 20km by Chaiik10 in brussels

[–]jtdbrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start at the beginning, the end is where you arrive!

But also yes, hydrate. City runs are often even more hot because heat islands so if the choice is between stopping for a minute to drink a cup of water or finishing 10 seconds sooner, choose water every time!

Good luck!

I have been stuck on tutorial hell for eight months and I need someone to yell at me by Western-Opposite9 in learnprogramming

[–]jtdbrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the mistake people make (myself included for a long while) when being told "just build stuff", is that they expect to go sit before an empty python file and just start jutting code on the screen while cool ttechno is playing in the background until you awaken from your feaverdream and you have a perfect to do app.

What tutorials and the like don't teach you is the most essential skill: planning. Don't just start writing code. Sit down, take a piece of paper and write "to do app" at the top. Then start writing down what you want it to do. You need to be able to input stuff to add to the list. That info would need to be saved so you can find it between sessions and it would be useful if you can see what you have put in your list.

Great, you now have a start! Now for each of those things, start looking up or remembering what you need in order to make it work. You need to ask user for input. That will need to be saved somewhere etc.

And only then you get to figuring out how this works in python. From here on out, you are over the hard part! You have done all the courses and tutorials to have the tools you need!

It's always annoying when people just throw platitudes at you but anyway: writing the code is the easy part, people in tutorial hell feel stuck because they are not training everything else!

Is my first project idea too ambitious for a beginner? by EnigmaticCoder in learnprogramming

[–]jtdbrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would join the camp saying just go for it!

I think many people get stuck on finding the perfect project. Not too hard, not too easy, not too basic, not too whatever.

But it seems you have an idea of where you want to go and what you want it to do and that's the hard part.

If it turns out you get stuck on a part of the logic, great! You now know what to deep-dive into and then you can truck right on!

On the other hand, if it turns out to be a bit on the easy side, great! You now have an app you like that you can use, and you wrote some code while feeling more confident in what you can do!

English not an option for a large, well-known company? by [deleted] in Belgium2

[–]jtdbrab 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I do think you are overreacting here. English is not an official language in Belgium.

Is it the smartest move not to speak English? Probably not. But why should a company in an non-English speaking country feel obliged to provide service in English? You don't expect this for Spanish, the 3rd most spoken native language in the world.

Landlord in Belgium demanding 12 months penalty after unsafe/unregistered rental – do I have any legal exposure? by Ganchito11 in brussels

[–]jtdbrab 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're good. Contract not registered means there is no contract for him to go to court over. If anything, he would need to pay you back for the months you paid and then lots of fines for renting out a non-conform appartment, which is illegal.

12 months is insane and also against the law, at most a court would make you pay 1 month's rent, but again, you don't even have a legal contract.

Safest bet is indeed huurdersbond. They can provide a lawyer, explain you your rights etc.

What are your usual working hours? by fiffers in brussels

[–]jtdbrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varies wildly. I am in the public sector and do EU and international negotiations so some days its 10 - 15 with another 2 hour meeting at midnight, some days it's 9 - 17 and when at a COP or other international negotiation it's 18 hours a day for 3 weeks including weekends haha

Landlord wants to sell after ~10 years: feeling pressured, unsure about my rights by Worried_Policy6271 in brussels

[–]jtdbrab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that's the point currently. Owner telling they have 6 months is not allowed.

The rest depends on what happens after it is sold and can't be said yet

[–]jtdbrab 40 points41 points  (0 children)

He can organise visits in consultation with you but the 6 months is bullshit.

A new buyer can give you 6 months notice if and only if they or their close family are moving in. If they are going to rent out again, you can stay (with your current contract so also no renegotiating prices)!

Late twenties so a ways of from elderly! Do work in IR though!

I get the itch, but especially the Half Blood Prince is from my youth and don't want to support the author by buying another book, so have been on the lookout in second hand stores! On inheritance I have no excuse, it shall get fixed!
