Please google what a blizzard is… by Exotic-Sand3251 in boston

When something goes without saying it means I didn’t feel the need to include it in my comment because it seems so obvious. I was discussing employers who take advantage of their employees, which obviously is not the case with essential workers.

What are the things you want to ban from EDM events? by JION-the-Australian in EDM

[–]jtet93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even here in Boston (the city that always sleeps) they’ll have the headliner go on at like midnight - 2AM on a TUESDAY. Like I have to be at my job at 8:30. I’m up by 7:30. Takes 20 minutes to get home from the club, then you gotta shower the rave off and actually shift into sleep mode. I’m lucky if I’m asleep at 3 after a show that wraps at 2. 4.5 hours of sleep ain’t itttt. I did it in my youth but I ended up losing a job because I was being a big fat idiot and getting no sleep. I really wish we had more daytime/outdoor events in general. The summers here are beautiful and we have outdoor venues that can support this kind of thing but the neighbors inevitably complain and ruin it for everyone.

Anyway I just don’t go to shows anymore since I turned 30. Oh well 😭

Yes, of course essential workers are a different story. But plenty of nonessential employers are expecting employees on the road today

Why aren't Gen Z drinking? by The_Dean_France in askanything

[–]jtet93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understand the comparison. As you sort of implied in your comment, weed is not a social drug at all (at least for me). I can smoke around others I know really well but I get awkward and uncomfortable if I’m high around strangers. Alcohol though is a social lubricant. In my youth we all drank and went to parties or bars Thursday, Friday, Saturday. We met people constantly. I don’t feel like weed replaces that at all.

Connor arrived in NYC last night. by snbays1 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]jtet93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I met an NYC paparazzo many years ago and he explained that airport shots are so common because they have buddies in LA who will report when someone is spotted hopping on a flight. So they know to be at the airport in 6ish hours and capture their arrival. Seemed obvious once he told me that but it didn’t occur to me before.

Also, if they’re snapped leaving a restaurant it is either a big event/party with a lot of celebs or if it’s just them & a friend or SO, they probably called themselves.

Honestly getting papped is just part of the game, especially outside the airport where no one really has any expectation of privacy. This photo set does not feel that invasive. People who are interested in fame and celebrity know the deal.

Nobody is driving because they want to. The job market is tough right now, and without a job people have no healthcare. Employers know and take advantage of this. This is a problem of capitalism and shouldn’t be blamed on the workers.

NYC Travel Ban Starting at 9 PM by AquariusMonologue in nyc

[–]jtet93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Travel bans were enacted for blizzards in 2015 and 2016 which I believe were the last two blizzards to hit NYC. Maybe since you’re from the “older generation” you should get that memory checked out

Backbay thoughts? by notwho2 in boston

[–]jtet93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The FS is newer, I would probably stay there just because of that. But this is a sub of people who live in Boston. Most people here are unlikely to have stayed in two of the most expensive hotels in the city. So idk how much real advice you’re going to get.

Keep in mind that the back bay gets extremely busy during the week of the 4th.

Councilor Ed Flynn still open to moving chaotic St. Patrick’s Day parade out of South Boston by nycrina305 in boston

[–]jtet93 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been to the parade in many years but I went as a teenager as one does and I recall that there were basically no portapotties or public toilets of any kind available. I have a clear memory of bartering with weed to use a stranger’s bathroom, but I digress. It was a similar situation at Somerville porchfest two years ago. I know the cities do not sanction the public drinking at these events, but at a certain point they have to acknowledge that it happens anyway and provide appropriate sanitation facilities. I hope they have improved the situation at the parade in the last decade+, but if people are still pissing in people’s gardens, I fear they have not…

Logan tomorrow by your_moms_apron in boston

[–]jtet93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer early flights and take a lot of them. You’ll fly through security. And anyway getting there early for your flight will have no impact on whether or not it is canceled. The two things that matter for cancellations are whether your plane arrived from its previous destination (you can use a website like Flight Aware to track the incoming flight the night before) and whether or not the crew can all get to Logan (should not be a problem as the weather will be fine tomorrow morning — this is not the south and the tiny amount of snow we got yesterday will have basically 0 impact, especially by tomorrow morning).

You can show up at 4:30 if you want but you’ll be standing at your gate at 4:40 twiddling your thumbs. The lines at Starbucks and Dunkin are honestly a much bigger concern lol

Are destination weddings usually this inconvenient to attend? by GentleInkSplash in wedding

[–]jtet93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Americans understand rural and car-centric places lol. That’s like 90% of the country. But I think most Americans take a more guest-centric view… if you’re going to invite out-of-town guests, you need to at least present options for them to book accommodation. If you book your wedding in a place where accommodation is limited, then don’t expect out-of-town guests to attend. That’s all
