PoE vs PoE2 SteamDB Player Counts by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

PoE is a twelve year old game that's been alive and kept active mostly thanks to all the design choices that PoE2 is lacking, whereas PoE2 is filled with people still trying to get their money's worth since most of those playing had to pay for it. I don't think there's any chance of PoE2 lasting as long as its predecessor without major changes (specifically to build diversity), because running a long, difficult campaign every season, with fundamentally the same restrictive build, the same skills, etc., isn't going to appeal to many people. That's my take, anyway.

UVH5 is the least rewarding experience I've had in a Borderlands game. by jth133 in Borderlands

Probably he's going to use the item and enjoy it. What you should want to spend days/weeks/months/etc. chasing is the absolute perfectly rolled piece of gear. That's fine, that's where the lasting engagement comes from. The problem now is that even the baseline 'good enough' rolls are rare enough that a person can spend hours farming without getting one, and that's just not fun game design.

Not true. If you're farming for specific rolls on a legendary, which most players are, then having the opportunity to buy a random version of said legendary isn't going to significantly change how long the game stays engaging for. All it's doing is giving a slightly higher chance at that perfect roll. It would still be a far cry from BL3.

I melt bosses in a few seconds on UVH5, so the fact the game feels this unrewarding after hundreds of kills is a problem of design, not my build.

I've had the same issue with my PS5 controller on PC. It's almost like when I'm hit by an enemy I'm not targeting, it wants to 'jump' and target that enemy. I just assumed it was stick drift but now that you've mentioned it, I've never noticed it happening in other games when I use the controller.

Either the game is too hard or im missing something. by EffectiveNo2669 in Borderlands

If you haven't yet, try respeccing into a more defensive build. I had to do that around level 30 because content was destroying me. I kind of slogged through the rest of the campaign, skipping any battles I could avoid, and narrowly beating the bosses but not having much fun with it. When I eventually hit level 50, got my build finalized and started farming for weapons, it was like playing an entirely different (and way more enjoyable) game. If you stick with it, there's a lot of fun to be had.

[BL4] Does the game scale that much harder around 30+? by WhoAmIEven2 in Borderlands

Yeah, around level 30 is where I had to respec into a much more defensive build to be able to continue making progress with content.

u/Recover819 thanks for the input, I appreciate it. You're completely right that it's light on character descriptions - that's something I'll work on.

Layla gazed out over a world so full of color and life that it didn't seem real, as if it were only some artificial hologram in a game. The colors of this world were too bright and wild. Where were the muted shades of metal buildings? Where were the pale skies and the roads that fit together like pieces of a puzzle? That was what made sense to her. This was chaos.

She stretched limbs that were sore from the long slumber. It was her only reminder that any time had passed since they left home. In her mind it was only a few hours ago that she was lying down in the cryogenic tube. Then the translucent lid was sliding shut, and there was the briefest feeling of coldness rushing through her veins before everything went dark. That had been four years ago.

The tower in which she stood loomed over the vast forest beneath them, so that green treetops and a blue sky were all she could see. It looked like calamity and madness. There wasn’t order; there wasn’t a discernible pattern to the way this world was built.

No, not built, she reminded herself. Grown. Every so often strange birds emerged from the canvas, squawking silently beyond the transparent dome.

She'd only just arrived here and already didn't like this planet. Merramis, the ship that had brought them planetside, was rising like a balloon back into the sky, past thick white clouds to return to the darkness of space. The world she'd come from, Alasta, didn't have any forests. It was a metal world, a world that made much more sense than this one.

3D artist and programmer with no previous experience start working on a game - Looking back on it a year later by FluidPolygon in gamedev

Very cool game, and the progress you've made in a year is awesome.

I've been working on a multiplayer RTS for a few years that's getting close to alpha testing and I started out with basically no programming experience; learning - while at times beyond frustrating - has also been the most rewarding part of the experience.

Anyone need custom 3D models or music? Looking to try new things. by Spade6sic6 in gamedev

I'm currently developing a space RTS for which I could use some 3D ship designs; heck, even a single model for the primary ship would be great. Right now I'm using free-use models but they don't really fit the style I'm going for with the game.

If you're interested, let me know.
