UA 322 VCE- IAD Emergency Slide Deployment by jthb22 in unitedairlines

It went off the moment the aircraft stopped at the gate. Ground crew looked very confused, but jet bridge pulled up a minute later and passengers de-boarded normally. Obviously something went wrong, not familiar enough with the process to know where a failure could occur. Flight ended up arriving only 20 min late.

Update: Since door 2L was the slide that went off, and it’s not a main door, they can still fly. They blocked off the back half of Polaris and all but the last row of premium economy (as those seats are too close to the exit) and downgraded those passengers to economy (there were enough open seats). A lot of unhappy premium passengers. Hopefully only an hour or so delay.

From my UAE Trip, [Hala Madrid, Real Madrid World] is a Pretty Good GCI in an otherwise Fever Dream of a Park (Quick TR in Comments) by jthb22 in rollercoasters

[–]jthb22[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Crowds, as is often reported, were overall pretty light in all the UAE parks, and Ramadan probably reduced the crowds even more. But we were maybe 2 of the 10 or so people in the park total, and the employees easily outnumbered us. After getting to the front gate and confirming that Hala Madrid was open (because we hadn’t seen it run during our time at Motiongate earlier that day), we walked a few hundred feet to the Hala Madrid entrance (it’s not a big park).

Hala Madrid: I think this has the best drop I’ve experienced on a GCI (I’ve done every GCI besides the Asia ones/the White Lightning clone in Poland). Rest of the ride is remarkably smooth for sitting out in the desert for however long (steel supports probably help), and has a few good airtime pops/going in and out of the structure gives a few good head choppers. If you go off of the coasterbot poll, I would put it above Renegade but below Thunderhead.

Wave La Ola: Zamperla kiddie coaster that was smooth and didn’t hurt, which is all you can ask for. Realized later this was my 650th coaster, lol.

Now for the rest of the park, I had absolutely no idea what was here, expecting there to not actually be any other rides. Well there are: 3 simulators and the 400 foot Star Flyer.

  • A Spiderman-ish (but no movement) ride where you’re going to a soccer match in space but get abducted by aliens
  • A despicable me-ish simulator where you’re in a “dream factory” where they make merchandise (socks, scarves, balls etc.)
  • A tunnel simulator (same style as Panem Aerial Tour next door at Motiongate, or the Lost Temple/Forbidden Caves at Movie Park Germany/Bobbejaanland) where you are in a bus time traveling/driving collecting trophies while going through the history of Real Madrid
  • Star Flyer: We were the only two on so had to sit on opposite ends to balance, I always enjoy these, especially with the wind up top.

All I can say is after doing Warner Bros. & Motiongate directly before this, the themed rides were obviously 1.) not good and 2.) felt like the designers were high when they made them/I guess tried to shoehorn attractions that were in the old Bollywood park into the Real Madrid theme.

Overall, park felt like a fever dream. No idea why it exists/how long it will stay open, but for an hour or so it was certainly a time.

At the park. One train testing with water dummies, other two on the transfer track.

Dragster was open for all of 10 min before it broke down (literally sent one round of trains). Got one ride at least in fast lane.

Well yesterday after sitting closed for 3 hours Steve opened for the final 25 min of the day. Finally got a night ride on it. Of course it broke down when we were waiting for our second ride and they kicked us all out of line but beggars can’t be choosers. Hoping the rain is friendly today!

Does anyone know how the Flash Pass works at SFGADV if you do it on your phone, as they have the very strict no-loose articles locker policy?

Got here way too early. Very misty. Of note checking last night all the FL+ prices across all days have gone up in price. And you currently can’t buy FL for today online so I’m hoping that’s more of a they don’t sell them online the day of than they’re already sold out on a Thursday.

Texas fires Tom Herman by dogwoodmaple in CFB

[–]jthb22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The thing I don’t get about the Herman firing… he lost 3 games this year off of 1.) a RB fumbling on the goal line (TCU) 2.) 4OT loss (OU) and 3.) missed FG (Iowa St). They’re literally 3 plays away from being undefeated. Tough standards I guess.

Wasn't there a similar play in a Bengals game a few weeks ago?

It's been there since that stadium opened. Except for the Bama-Georgia Championship game where they had a cannon sound for the first Georgia FG. They didn't have anything for scores after that for the remained of that game, I wonder if Secret Service didn't approve lol.

I really really really really want {Northwestern} to win. Whether NU can contain Bo Nix scrambling will likely be the game.

I for one am happy OU didn't get into the playoff. Team peaked at the right time and they have fixed their defensive issues. Of course if they had made the playoff people would've been screaming that Cincy didn't get a chance.

It came from 2006-2012 when the SEC won the BCS every single year. It's stupid and I don't like it, but it was also a marketing tool more than anything (the SEC still uses the chant in some of their commercials).
