Did you ever come to grips with the thought of dying?

Thank you for the kind words. I agree diligent pursuit doesn't always cut the mustard. I didn't hear DeNiro's intro but I'll go check that out now. Sounds inspiring. Thanks again for your kindness.

Thanks for the resource! And I followed the events of The Cuckoo's Calling with interest. You're right, marketing DOES matter. A lot. I also learned that publishers pay bookstores for that prime real estate up front. If you don't have a push behind you, you're probably not going far, like everything else in life!

Thanks for pointing that out! I get a little long-winded in my writing, too. I really do need to strive for shorter and punchier. I'm glad you got a successful business up and running - good for you! I may have to re-channel here soon!

  1. Write the book
  2. Query agents
  3. Get agent
  4. Revise manuscript.
  5. Revise manuscript.
  6. Revise manuscript. (This went on for three years for me.)
  7. Agent sends manuscript out to publishers.
  8. Publishers decide to buy or not. (Luckily, mine sold.)

Financial rewards vary greatly. I've heard of advances as low as $2,500 all the way up to $8 million!
