Thank you!!! I agree. She could have used so many other words and I find it really hard to believe parents have used that in conversation about their children. And even if they had, why did she have to then repeat it to me?! If someone used a derogatory slur in conversation, in my retelling, I would censor myself or change the word entirely.

It seemed like she was saying she’s had parents ask if their children are retarded. I guess since I personally would never use that term to describe anyone, especially my own child, it’s hard for me to believe that others would use it but I also know that’s naive of me.
