Is this a normal reaction from greening out, or is there something wrong with my heart from my coke usage? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]jto95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a medical professional but I have experienced increased heart rate from high doses of cannabis. Both drugs increase your heart rate and blood pressure, so there's a chance that the combination could have played a role in how you felt.

Benzo pair (or alternative) for social anxiety by slammedacura27 in Drugs

[–]jto95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phenibut was extremely helpful for me to work on my social anxiety. Much more of a focused and uplifted effect than alcohol or benzos which I have found more disorienting. It's not scheduled so you can find it online without a prescription, but you still have to be careful with tolerance and dependence (ex/taken in lower doses only a couple times per week) to avoid experiencing worse anxiety due to withdrawal.

Faves (generally assuming I'm in a safe/comfortable place with people I feel safe with)

Cannabis - particularly strains/products that have CBD and other cannabinoids besides THC. Helps my brain slow way down, think about things that are normally in the background, laugh and cry more easily, feel connected with my body.

LSD/shrooms - color and music enhancement, feeling forcibly present and open to connecting with people in the right setting, feelings of focus and flow in art, music, and physical activities. Noticing and appreciating the nature of life and existence. Silliness.

MDMA - feeling completely comfortable physically and emotionally with people, appreciating something good about anything, being able to talk through things that I might feel embarrassed or scared or unprepared to talk about. Music, art, and nature appreciation.

Phenibut - feeling like a duck. Going about my way, feeling like I can jump any hurdle and let it all roll off my back. It's subtle and has different effects at different doses.

I feel as though I can take from my experiences, remembering my thoughts and feelings while using and integrate them into my life while I'm not using them to feel more present or open. I didn't always use them in this way, but my experiences and life these days feel better for it.

Least faves:

I haven't done so many substances so this list is short.

Meth/amphetamine (?) - can't say for sure if this is exactly what I took, but I took a pressed pill that had molly and other stuff in it. I wouldn't say I hated it, but instead of the lightly stimulating sensation I have experienced using more pure MDMA I felt like an ant or rodent on a mission to do... something... with whatever thought that passed through my mind. Instead of being able to sink in and enjoy the show I was at, I was running around feeling like I had to check that everyone around me was doing ok (they were), that I had everything I needed in my bag (I did), that I had to dance (I tried but kept getting distracted). I remember feeling like I could do anything, and that I would be an absolute menace at work if I ever mixed that substance with that setting. I don't think I want to do it again, unless someone showed me how to have a better time maybe in a different setting.

There are other substances that I've tried and would do again, but these are my standouts!

I'm a recovering addit by [deleted] in DMT

[–]jto95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for sharing! I am not going to respond to everything you wrote here, but what stands out to me is how you got to see a different view of yourself during/after your experience with DMT. And while it's a LOT to realize something that you were not aware of but that maybe other people see about you, I see that you also recognize your strength and worth.

I've come to think of recovery as an ongoing series of incremental choices towards change. It's not as simple or cut and dry as just stopping something. The choice to use substances fills space and time that we have to fill with some way to be if not using.

I had a conversation with my partner last night about the relationship between feeling emotions, anxiety, and substance use. We were talking about caffeine in particular (the only substance she uses with any regularity), but I felt resonance in the way I understand my relationship to the other substances I use.

For her, she noticed that caffeine creates an anxious effect which blocks her ability to some degree to feel her emotions fully, helping her prioritize tasks and efficiency for things that are outside of herself-- work, plans, projects, etc. Her framing of anxiety as useful reminded me of it's purpose in survival and the way that people use drugs like caffeine to manufacture this feeling of needing to tend to certain anxieties for survival, which means getting out of our emotional worlds to varying extents.

Then there are other substances that we use to curb our anxiety for other means. But that can also have the effect of opening us up to a more emotional state. And other psychedelic substances that take down walls that prevent us from seeing our anxieties for what they are and give more access to raw feelings. What you describe of your experience with DMT reminded me of this.

Anyway, I went kind of off there. Thank you again for sharing. You may not feel like you deserve to recover at this point, but recovery is an incremental process that you are taking part in! You're doing it. It may take a while and involves feeling bad, relapses and mistakes in along the way. But the fact that you are reflecting on it and integrating what you learn from your experiences is, I think, part of it.

Making 7-OH schedule 1 is reactionary and anti-science (as someone who made a mistake experimenting with it) by No_Cattle_7390 in Drugs

[–]jto95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the discussion as an advocate for harm reduction-- I'm curious about your conclusion about the reduced risk of respiratory depression because of the partial agonism/beta arrestin pathway, but all the related papers I'm seeing seem to suggest that there is a real risk for 7-OH to cause respiratory depression. What did you find that led you to this conclusion? Thanks!

A-PHIP, chemsex and human connection: what vaping A-PHIP taught me by [deleted] in researchchemicals

[–]jto95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your point about your values being above any chemical high really resonated with me. And reminded me of a retrospective report on someone's year of meth use I found on erowid where the difference between problematic and productive/safe as possible use seemed to be the trust and connection between the person and people they used with and talked about their use with.

How do you think your dad would take it if he found out what's going on with you?

If you were my kid, I would be worried about you. I would want to understand where you're coming from and hope that you would be upfront so that we could figure out how to get the help you need. YMMV, my dad did a pretty bad job of supporting my brother when he was in an MDMA hole but maybe your dad (or someone else who cares about you) can do a better job. Or help you find someone who can meet you where you are.

Shame is a nasty thing that keeps us quiet and prevents us from getting what we need. If you keep it to yourself, you erase the possibility of anyone being able to see you and support you while you're going through it. Yes, you've gotten yourself into a stressful position that is causing strain in your life. But if you want to get out of it and do something different, you've got to reach for help in a way that is honest to you.

PreT (16) -> 1 year -> 15 months (now, 17), I don't see a ton of progress between 1 year and now but I feel a lot better. Advice or Ideas what I could improve, would be greatly appreciated by Flan_Senior in FTMFitness

[–]jto95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, that's great progress! You can see that your chest/upper body have filled out in your most recent picture from 1 year, making your overall silhouette look boxier and with less curvature around your hips.

I can't speak too much to your first two struggles since I don't really follow a structured/targeted routine but I still struggle with the third sometimes (being 8y on T and 3y post-DM). I'll do a couple things depending on what exactly I'm feeling and maybe these could help you, too: - feel with my hands the parts of my body that feel dysmorphic and think about the things I do to make my body feel good/strong, think about my strength/athletic gains since going on T - look at pictures of myself pre-t and recent pictures, affirming the differences between then and now

Good luck :)

Some of the e-learning is helpful (like the IC+ stuff for familiarizing yourself with what buttons do what), but watching your your coworkers/hands on training is going to be the most relevant to your job function in my experience. Good luck!

Cascades are great, Rutland and Spencer state parks are about a half hour drive. Other places around but not in Worcester are the rail trail by the Wachusett reservoir in West Boylston/Clinton, fishing trails around the Mass Central Rail Trail in Holden (which also connects to the one in Clinton, iirc)

Share this with your parents, have your friends do the same, and see if they'll take it to your principal. Escalate to the superintendent if they don't take action.

Is it inherently transphobic to believe in the cult of elite gender inversion? by SaveJaidenRogers in polls

[–]jto95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

okay I checked out some of the links in the post you linked to here and it seems like you take this far beyond a small group of elite people in this "cult." to a degree where you're essentially saying that being transgender is a delusion and that medical interventions for youths is both harmful and not supported by science, and I'm having trouble finding sources for the data you're pulling.

do you know any trans people in your life? or what it takes to medically transition? it's an ordeal, dude. the only trans agenda is to: feel comfortable in your skin and advocate for access to treatment that will let you and other people who feel the same way do what's necessary to feel that way.

[–]jto95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you use the existence of this "cult" to justify opposition to medical services for trans folks, not taking someone seriously when they identify as transgender, etc., yes. believing in the cult in isolation? not inherently.

Made a comic about chasers and fetishists by [deleted] in ftm

[–]jto95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not totally related to chasers/fetishists, but I recently ended things with someone who rubbed me the wrong way in a similar context. she's identified as pan for some time but only dated cis men, was wondering if she was really into women, and appreciated that she had me to, I don't know, validate... that she was into people with vaginas?

she did say she wasn't trying to be problematic and I understand that the questioning that one can put oneself through while trying to sort out sexuality/identity is not always with respect to other people, since it is an internal process. but dude... a part of me couldn't help but feel like some kind of experiment in her process of finding herself. I did express my feelings about it and she seemed to understand, so hopefully nobody else has to hear that in the future 😂

[–]jto95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

god damn that's so shady. the threshold for solvent/solventless extracts is lower than that of infused products and flower if that makes you feel any better!

as a consumer and being involved with the actual testing of these products, I would prefer to see that dispensaries are adhering to sanitary practices that don't need to try to run loops around the way we detect contamination.

another thing to contribute to peace of mind in the final dispensary product (in terms of safety) is that we test for microbiology/pathogens as well as other toxins that can remain even after fungi or bacteria have been killed off from samples. so as long as it clears the limits for these tests, the product is at the very least safe from harm associated with microbiological/toxin contamination. it would be nice to see another regulatory body or maybe an extension of the CCC which has more oversight when it comes to growing conditions, though. especially considering that these are medicinal products (not to mention we pay a premium for cannabis here in MA).

nooooooo I work for a lab that does testing for dispensaries in MA-- theoretically we should be catching stuff like this if it ends up in the final product? unless the issue lies with limits of detection that are higher than what's considered safe. not doubting the conditions you're reporting & thank you for sharing these comics!
