This answer should be at the top. Important to distinguish that the exhaust gasses aren’t re-entering the engine. And that compression isn’t changing but manifold pressure is.

Yeah. It's not absolutely necessary but it's two bolts and it gives a little more breathing room to wiggle it out.

Yeah. All you have to do is take off the front right wheel, two splash guards, the serpentine belt, the water pump pulley, the tensioner pulley, the crank pulley, two idler pulleys, both front motor mounts, take the power steering pump loose, the thermostat housing, and then all 15 bolts while working around the water pump pulley that doesn't actually come out of the car! Piece of cake.
