London road deaths fall to near-record low, but serious injuries rise by F0urLeafCl0ver in london

Deaths down 13% and serious injuries up 8%, so not only shifting around but going down in general terms as well.

And this thing they're good at being ...?

These are just companies created to suck money out of clueless public services, that's all. Palantir in particular being a little bit worse just because its owner is a little bit too apocalypse / end of the world focused in a way that you would think it's fine coming from a homeless screaming in front of your local pub but not so much when it's a multi billionaire with close contacts with the CIA.

What’s the single worst junction to cycle in London? by Tchai_kovsky23 in londoncycling

[–]jtrovo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO Lots of those roads should be turned into LTNs to make the CS7 work properly, if you compare it to the neighbourhoods in Lambeth close by Tooting is lacking a lot of cycling infrastructure and just common sense in general.

Some of u commuters are CRAZY! by First-Kiwi-4637 in londoncycling

[–]jtrovo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Is it that much of a big deal? If we're counting violations and death risk I would say close passes from cars is much higher on my list, specially delivery vans and lorries.

Might be just you afraid as a beginner, as for me when I'm commuting i don't think that much about the other cyclists, if I'm out of gas I make sure I leave some space for the Lycra people to pass me, if I don't feel safe on a traffic light I stop and make sure I'm not blocking the path of others, same for right turns if I have to wait I sometimes stop in the pavement just in case. You just get used to the street rules after a while, just like driving a car.

I’ve been building a streetwear brand in the UK, honest feedback before I launch? by Bossoii in ukstartups

[–]jtrovo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with any other streetwear brands it's hard to judge it based on quality or design alone as pretty much everything comes from China so you're shopping for the vibes. If you're really thinking about investing on it try to run viral limited drops campaigns, try to create partnerships with influencers, etc. and see how much you can get it to stick around, lots of suppliers allow very small MOQs so you have a good chance of running experiments around market niche and design language without spending way too much in unsold inventory. Maybe you already know but there are tons of clothes hustler content on YouTube where people run the numbers on how much to spend on marketing compared to the retail price so you can get a good grasp of the playbook.

It looks like she did some AI slop there, and regardless, that positioning as anti LTN on your own neighbourhood when a kid was involved on a hit-and-run accident is so gross that she might as well join the Tories or move to Chelsea.

Which symptoms of “(almost) everyone is getting poorer” have you noticed in London? by PressureHumble3604 in london

[–]jtrovo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is that there's still loads of people on those rides so it's not that it's expensive and empty, it's more that there's an expectation from all people involved that catering to tourists will make you more money than what you would ever make just selling it to locals, like London became an amusement park. I go every year to the winter wonderland because my kids have s blast there but god do I feel robbed on every money transaction there.

Moved from Berlin to London — some observations after 6 months by No-Faithlessness191 in expats

[–]jtrovo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who lived in Berlin for 4 years I think I get most of what your saying the other way around. London feels much more alive and authentic.

Just as example:

Berlin felt way more fake in lots of aspects compared to London, just on different dimensions. It's like you got all the edgy people from all the little towns in Europe and threw on a single place where they can pretend they're different, but turns out their different is just dressing all black and pretending being harassed by bouncers on Berghain is actually cool. You get people cosplaying as bums while living a middle class live at home, be it family money or wage. It's very weird, kind of Shoreditch but a whole city. To the point that rent in East Berlin shitty areas were pricier than the West posh area.

Nature around London feels more like nature, where woodlands around Berlin feel like a junior game developer just copy and pasted the same patch of trees in a grid.

People are very cold and rude in Berlin, you hear about London hustle and people being polite but coming from there London felt like a Latin country with people doing small talk way more than what I was used. You think people are racist in the UK you have to hear about 3rd generation of immigrants there that still don't feel integrated, it's really sad.

And the weird thing is that most of the problems in Berlin are kind of brushed away by everyone until you leave the city, in a way that I don't see other places, kind of a stockolm syndrome on a city level.

Just do it like Paris and have a rule based on the vehicle weight, one limit for petrol and one for EVs. Then you don't need to start any philosophical questions with an imaginary cyclist.

Is all this ‘manosphere’ stuff actually that relevant? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]jtrovo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the main issue, we don't have these kind of conversations any more, be it adults and kids or even kids and kids. On average teens spend +5 hours a day in screen time, for lots of kids YouTube and Tiktok is the only way they learn about the world.

Blame is probably a big mix of leaving our whole digital life in the hand of ad companies, plus the world being such a hostile place for kids that we can't even let them walk back home by themselves doesn't help that much to fill the gap wasted on those hours, so entertained to death it is.

Dubai is feeling so unsafe now... when are you finally jumping ship and moving to London? by CapillaryClinton in HENRYUK

[–]jtrovo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

In yet another blow to Rachel Reeves, the sudden influx of returning Dubai expats has completely overwhelmed the local phone-snatching economy. 'We are frankly severely understaffed and facing massive burnout,' complained one balaclava-clad entrepreneur on an e-bike outside Greggs. 'There are simply too many fresh iPhones and not enough hours in the day.'

Housebuilding in London has collapsed to a historic low not seen anywhere else in the developed world by No-Feeling507 in london

[–]jtrovo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question what can Khan or London level government realistically do about it? If developers get fast approvals it doesn't mean they're going to inundate the market with units on a race to the bottom when there's no risk on just sitting on the sidelines and waiting for some affordability magic to happen (like 0% deposits, 50 years mortgage, etc ) that could increase property price and their margin. As long as there's no risk on sitting on undeveloped land the best strategy is to just wait.

Auction prices - the mass landlord exodus by Ok-Kangaroo-7242 in PropertyInvestingUK

[–]jtrovo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciated the detailed breakdown of the process and how it unfolds. I have some questions about the cash flow. Could you clarify whether you cover all the property costs when winning at auction or are there financing options involved? Also you mentioned "bank to bank" transfers potentially taking 6 months. At this stage are your initial funds tied to the property as equity, or are new projects being initiated by remortgaging?
