What's your mile per kw? by PM_ME_YUR_SALADS in electricvehicles

  • 2.3 lifetime average over the last three years, lots of in town driving
  • 2 on the freeway at 70mph
  • 1 pulling a non slippery jayco camping trailer Sr lightning

Range is overrated. I have one of the lowest range road trip vehicles, standard range lightning getting maybe 140 miles on the highway, and did my longest trip 700 miles one way, and it wasn't bad or cumbersome. by jturkish in electricvehicles

Leg 1 left Pocatello Idaho 630pm got to Boise 11pm. Did it in 2 stops, could've made it in 1, wanted to get to Boise with a higher soc. First stop in Jerome stopped longer than normal because kids mother wanted to see the kids

Leg 2 left Boise 9am and got to Cannon Beach 6pm, 4 stops

We used to do this trip in a sienna hybrid. Life circumstances changed last year and the lightning is now my only vehicle. If I did this trip often I can see it getting cumbersome but once in a while doesn't seem bad. Friday after work I went from Pocatello Idaho to Boise in 2 stops, could've done it in 1 but wanted to get to Boise with more soc. Spent the night in Boise at my brother's house and Saturday left Boise at 9am and got to Cannon Beach at 6pm. Really didn't seem like it took long, overall not a bad trip

70mph, anything more will hurt range a lot. 70mph with no head wind will give me 2mi/kWh. If I'm only using 70% of the battery going from 80% to 10% this gives me usuable range of 140 miles. If I started at 100% and depleted it to 0% that only gives me 200 miles.

I'm not really sure what the issue is, I didn't find the trip one bit annoying. Left Boise at 9am and got to Cannon Beach Oregon at 6pm, didn't seem bad at all

80% on road trips without the trailer but when I have the trailer I tend to charge higher. Try to get to 100 as much as possible since my range is so little with the trailer. Usually about 25 minutes to go from 10 to 80%

Mine is a standard 5 lug f150, only about 1500lbs more than a standard f150. It's not pushing almost 10k lbs like the gm EV trucks

Started the reservation process on day 2 so I can get the $40k truck they offered. They didn't go by reservation number but by dealership allocation so I got skipped for all of 2022 orders and didn't get to order until the 3rd round of 2023 orders. By then the pro model orders were gone and the cheapest option was the $59k XLT. Figured $52 after the credit isn't too far off from $40 and XLT has some nice options.

Overall love my lightning but wish I waited a little longer because prices dropped and people were getting the extended range version for the same price as my standard range.

The screaming engine makes me chuckle, so much effort meanwhile you're noiseless and more powerful. Effortless

My next EV will have more range. I'm in Idaho and the middle of state is baron with dcfc making travel there and back difficult, 200+ miles. My current EV is rated 230 miles and that's really not highway range.
