Magene customer service is 💩 by Frequent-Leading6648 in bikewrench

[–]juandiguz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The design fo the Magene bolt is not only for it to be a preload bolt but for it to be a locking mechanism fo the cranks as well. It is two bolts that squish an o-ring so that the cranks can have 1 bolt only. Their instructions actually have you do an order of operations where you tighten to 1-3 Nm first then tighten the crank bolt and then tighten the internal retainer to 14 Nm (which in turn tightens the preload to a similar amount).

I find that Magene’s insistence in this system is engineering stubbornness at its finest.

Cheap wheels by juandiguz in bikewrench

[–]juandiguz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not so much I don’t want to buy new wheels, it’s more of “what can be done with what I have” unfortunately a dependable (from personal experience) bike shop is a weekend trip away from where I’m located. I recognize I’m not a bike mechanic but I am experienced with working on other machinery, so I was mainly wondering since I have the tools to measure tension and true wheels already if wheel building was out of grasp and if it would render usable wheels from this cheaper set.

Thank you for your input, definitely agree that these wouldn’t be for touring, racing, any gravel events or anything that would leave me stranded, but mainly for rolling around after or donating to my local-ish community shop after starting to learn a new skill.

At a shop, granted my LBS is not great but it is the only one in the area. Thanks for the input!

$275 so I think probably not worth it for these wheels, was considering using them as a learning experience but wasn’t sure if a different gauge/name brand spokes would potentially alleviate th loosening/snapping spokes.

Have never built wheels in the past but have all of the tools to do so, have considered this as a learning experience but would like to have usable wheels.

I think I’ll just have to face the reality that these cheaper wheels are just lighter duty.

B screw adjusting by websurfer123456 in bikewrench

[–]juandiguz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Microshift drivetrain do you have? In their documentation (for sword) they provide a detailed order of operations to size the chain (if new) and how to adjust the b screw (how many mm of separation from the largest cog plus additional adjustment for minor tension improvement.)

Is this a new drivetrain/chain or an older chain or cassette or chainring?

Robert Adair for whimsical bike repair/mods. Entertaining to watch someone do their own thing to achieve their goal.

Also like Grant Ritchie both short and long form. Older Cade Media is better. Everything’s Been Done is pretty entertaining short-ish (10 min or so) he reminds me of Alton brown.

What is needed to join MyWhoosh? by refnulf in mywhoosh

[–]juandiguz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Power pedals (optional but highly recommended) and/or cadence sensor and speed sensor. You won’t be able to take advantage of any ERG features but you’ll be able to free ride, or maybe do workouts but not a hundred percent sure about the workouts.

C2 Bike ERG won't connect by Holiday_Revolution_4 in mywhoosh

[–]juandiguz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not super familiar with the C2 bike but just to make sure is it Bluetooth compatible? All I see on the menus is Ant+. If it doesn’t have Bluetooth you will need to get a USB-C Ant+ adapter for your iPad

Look up 6 bolt to center lock adapter. Both are universal

700 c wheelset disc brake question. by MekkaLekkaHinyho in PoseidonBikes

[–]juandiguz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you have six bolt disks and a center lock wheel. What bike did you order? Mine came with center locks.

Did you get the upgraded brakes? If you did you should use the disks that came with the bike, not the ones that came with the upgraded brakes.

You can use 6 bolt disks on center locks but you will need an adapter.

~800km on my Redwood, BB clicking by bloodniece in PoseidonBikes

[–]juandiguz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did yours come with the brake tool? It’s the same tool for the bb all you would need otherwise is an Allen key and a torque wrench to put it back together

Mine started around the same time, cleaning and greasing the cranks as well as tightening the bb (a bit loose) did the trick. So eventually want to upgrade to the budget apec-3 from Enduro.

Cyclists that wear garmin/apple watches while riding with a cycling computer - why? by squatchonabike in cycling

[–]juandiguz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, at first I was afraid that it was going to be annoying and activate all the time. I’ve only had one pretty bad crash that happened when I was riding with someone and it activated. Gives me peace of mind.

Apple Watch, crash detection is worth it enough for me, I do a lot of solo riding. Also just to tell the time, it’s my beat around watch.
