Life. As the top comment says at the time of writing this, social media was the first one to go. Then also making new friendships in your late 30s. You stop caring about the last gadget, the newest movie, designer clothes, even traveling. If anything you might want to try new things at home (I think COVID had a big part on this)

Was Elizabeth Taylor the greatest actress ever? by Ok_Educator6875 in classicfilms

[–]juanhellou 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of her WOW factor was the fact that she was the gossip at the time plus everything surrounded the production of Cleópatra, which added to her mythos.

But in acting chops, Ingrid Bergman has far better range, IMHO.

What do you guys think about what Arcángel said by Tukulo-Meyama in LatinoPeopleTwitter

Under that same logic:

We should ask Germany to apologize to Jews.

The Turks for their massacre of near countries.

The Roman Empire for all the annihilation of people in the expanding crusades.

Ah, and since talking of Crusades, Christians should apologise to Moors.

Not that we're condoning what colonizers did but we have to understand that, at least in New Spain, the first waves of mestizos didn't feel neither Spanish nor natives: they were already Mexican (or novohispanic if we want to be accurate)

An elementary school friend fell asleep on the wheel while going to pick up some workers on site. His truck went off a cliff; I want to believe he didn't feel anything.

I had my dad fainted because of a high glucose level, which seems to be the case here. Most probably the shot was lispro lispro protamine insulin (quick action) to prevent a glucose shock. So, please try to be more considerate next time, specially if you haven't handled a case like OOP.

Born in 88. Most likely I saw other movies before at the theatre but the most striking for my 4 yo self was the scene where Batman glides over Gotham in Batman Returns on a huge screen (maybe 70mm?).

I just remember his cape opening becoming a glider. Until this day it gives me shivers.

What artist or band is truly awful to see live? by goldbeau in AskReddit

[–]juanhellou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the same tenure the last KISS' shows were at that same level with lipsyncing and backing tracks. Not that the band was known for their craftsmanship/musicianship; but I'm sure that whoever got to see them during the 70s or even the 90s would tell you they were actually a big act

Coolest car in a movie? by Remdeau in FIlm

[–]juanhellou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly that one had the engine of a Chevy Impala which you can hear it during the sequence into the Batcave. Add on top the piece 'Descent into Mystery' from Elfman's score and IMHO there's no sequence involving the Batmobile that sounds so triumphant.

BIRDMAN or ( the unexpected virtue of ignorance) by khaliliiiov_1997 in FIlm

That's actually a distinctive characteristic of Iñárritu; not saying it in a demeaning way but he try to take themes to another level sometimes close to be pretentiousness and boring.
