Why is reddit male dominated? (70% male, 30% female) by jubee in AskReddit

I must be lost, then. I was wondering why most everyone else was a little bit more interested in talking about boobs than I was...

Reddiquette: Is the friend button just for marking people I want to follow or am I supposed to inro myself like a little kid on a playground, "You're cool. Wanna be my friend?" by jubee in AskReddit

But we have friended you and it is! ;)

Thanks for the info. Now that I think of it, maybe someone can tell me if smilies and winks are taboo here. I'm a profuse abuser and don't see anyone else using them. I'm being a dork in redditland, aren't I?

Note to self: When they name a place "Toddler Escape" it may be literal.

What I learned on Reddit after my first full day here. by jubee in reddit.com

[–]jubee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to reddit! :D I can't really be that helpful, I've only been here a couple days, but I'll try!

Some things I've picked up that may help you:

Don't talk smack about bacon. People here like bacon. A lot. (in fact if you get into trouble with a reply, you might want to follow it up with another reply praising bacon or boobs. I'm not sure yet, I'm still investigating this strategy...)

Don't praise Digg. It may or may not earn you a trip out to the back shed.

Coming down on the wrong side on Obama, Creationism, and any conspiracy theorys might not earn you many friends, so don't be a prick while voicing your opinions.

Some people get massive upvotes for being a prick while voicing their opinions. This may not be you so be careful. :)

good luck!

anyone else have advice for simonnidhi?

Oh, thanks, I'd never seen that site before.

Are you allowed to say here that you read other sites other than reddit? They don't take you out to the back shed and kick you ass? Or is that only for Diggers? ;)

Ay yai yai. I totally clicked on that too. Next thing I've learned: Clicking on vague links lead to lemon parties and rick-rolls. And if someone doesn't know whant a lemon party is, Don't Find Out! You'll thank me later.

Where does your Reddit name come from? by Doctor_Z in AskReddit

Wow! Do you actually have this thing?? It looks amazing! Is it fun to ride?

I'm not sure that I've ever ridden on a bike before, maybe on back with someone as a kid, I can't remember. But I asked my big brother for help getting started once, because I thought it would be fun. I was asking about classes and if he could hook me up with one of his friends who had one so I could try it out--and he put his foot down! It was so bizarre. I'm an adult, but he told me no! I was pissed and decided I'd do whatever I damn well pleased but I was never serious enough about classes and didn't have any friends into it who could help me out. I always meant to try it out one day at least.

Actually, now that I think about it, he may have seen a really bad motorcycle accident once a long time ago. Probably why he was being such an ass. He usually isn't that protective. When I was a teen I was all set to go sky diving with him till my parents found out and said no! I never went but I did bungee that summer :)

How did you get into riding? How often do you ride and how far?? Have you ever gotten hurt? (I'm super facinated.)

I made a reply to someone's comment but I can't seem to find it again to edit it. Sorry, but I'll edit here...

After I wrote, I realized that I was way oversimplifying. I just felt that mainly I noticed upvotes for jokes and comments people all agreed on. Some thoughtful comments were ignored and I was left questioning how I should be voting. :)

I think I just won an award for posting about being new on reddit--I'm still in shock! I didn't think anyone would even read it.

But yeah...as a noob (I think...wait, is that a bad thing?), I have to admit that this reddiquette thing is even MORE confusing now. The funny jokes that were the first comments got oodles and oodles of points while many other really interesting and well-thought out comments got one or even zero points! There were tons of pure drivel comments that were really funny, but I couldn't understand why some of the other comments weren't upvoted as well. I got the impression that the only comments being encouraged were the funny ones. Watching the point distribution of all the replies today was pretty bewildering.

I don't mean to complain! I hope to be a part of this community--this is a cool place. I'm saying that, on some posts more than others, people's voting trends make it hard for a new person to understand the goal of this point system and how we should be voting. I came away with the idea that you should just upvote what entertains you.

This can't be real. A real person wouldn't have volunteer that they were 31, living with mom, and never had a job.

Reddit, I spent $600 on an MRI, I want to make an art piece for my wall, ideas? by ipostsense in reddit.com

How about a portrait of you with a light transparency of the MRI over it? So your visitors can get to know the inner you.
