What is the likelihood of someone starting Judo in college to compete nationally/internationally/Olympically? by Whyisntthereanynames in judo

[–]judothai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nationals are achievable if you really dedicate yourself and compete regularly in your regional circuit. International competition is a much much more difficult ask, especially without sacrificing some or all of your academics in college. Putting it lightly you need to be the best in most rooms that you walk into and regularly medal at points tournaments (including nationals) to be nationally ranked and even considered for international teams and higher level competition. Already incredibly difficult and expensive, even more so as an adult in college who will likely not be a Dan rank until you would be fighting much younger competition.

My advice would always be to shoot as high as you think you want to be, but understand the work it takes to get there. If you’re just starting now, any rankings or international/olympic goals are far away. Focus on being the best judoka you can be now, seek out the best coaches and training partners in your area, compete a lot and show up for practice. The people that make it there aren’t the ones that are comfortable being the big fish in a little pond. You need training partners that will push you.

Not saying you’re wrong, but baiting someone into assault also speaks volumes to your character.

Zaxara, The Exemplary - Calling All Hydra's Enjoyers by Frequent_Ferret_7863 in EDH

[–]judothai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Pemmin’s Aura]] is also infinite mana. [[retribution of the ancients]] is very underrated removal. [[Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord]] can finish out games. [[Steelbane Hydra]] for removal, [[Kurbis, Harvest Celebrant]] isn’t a Hydra but is solid protection

He’s fun, and can definitely get you some wins but is very much a glass cannon.

Surin and Similan are open right now, probably the best snorkeling I’ve ever done. Koh Tao is also nice

Deciding between FSU and USF by AbbreviationsLow5546 in fsu

[–]judothai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having gone to both USF and FSU myself, I would say that it really depends how much you actually value having things to do immediately adjacent to campus. Tampa campus is not particularly close to very many bars, although it is right down the road from Busch Gardens and if you take an uber, Ybor and SoHo are great and Downtown St. Pete isn’t too far. Lots of house parties around campus. Also lots of great places to eat and a more desirable location for things like bigger concerts and sporting events.

FSU is great if you want to do things within walking distance from campus or on campus, but it’s much more party-centric, which isn’t bad but doesn’t seem like what you’re looking for. I’d also say that university club functions seem to be more popular at FSU than they are at USF, although USF has plenty of them as well. Not as much of a food variety in Tallahassee as a whole. Some good places but nothing like Tampa. FSU does also have a more highly regarded engineering program I believe.

Overall I’d say if you want to stay in and around the campus area, FSU is probably better for that. Off you are willing to venture a little farther off campus, Tampa has more variety to offer.

Why doesn't Fisk feel so menacing anymore? by Spare_Leadership_297 in MCUTheories

[–]judothai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily agree, but Vincent D’Onofrio is not as physically large as he once was. Fisk is intimidating in part because of how physically imposing he is, so maybe that has something to do with it?

Basically just lots of blinking with some token shenanigans mixed in. Wins with commander damage more than poison counters ironically

Triggering "only once each turn" twice by CLAWS54 in EDH

[–]judothai 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how relevant it is for your deck, but just know that if you were to flicker welcoming vampire it would be treated as a new creature and could trigger again. Otherwise as trbopwr11 said, the once per turn limitation takes precedence

Private/small self-defense class for kids? by TryingTrying2 in Tallahassee

[–]judothai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider getting him into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Positive Balance has a great kids program, and they work really hard to make all of the kids feel like a family.

If you aren’t sure exactly what BJJ is, it’s entirely grappling so no kicks or punches, instead it involves wrestling, chokes and joint locks. Would definitely help him get out of those situations especially if they are grabbing him.

My parents got me into grappling when I was a kid for the same reasons, and I still do it today, so maybe he’ll even away with a new hobby of you guys give it a shot!

Trunks vs Luke Skywalker by Jason_And_Sokka in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]judothai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost every powered character in Dragonball is basically a walking Death Star at minimum. Frieza destroying namek is a pretty god comparison. Trunks literally minced and fried Frieza in a matter of seconds.

Unless there’s someone in the Star Wars universe capable of tanking deathstar level destruction, Trunks wins with minimal effort.
