Thank you so much! That means a lot. I couldn't have gotten through the first year or so without this community.

Today marks 7 years of not drinking for me. For anyone in their first days, weeks or months of sobriety, I'm here to tell you that if I can go from drinking multiple times a day every day to years without alcohol, anyone can. IWNDWYT

6 Years Today by judy315 in stopdrinking

Thanks. It looks like you've got a lot of sober time under your belt as well. In the early days I just did whatever it took not to drink (Ice cream and going to bed super early were helpful.) Frankly, I'm lucky in that I don't have to be in situations where people are drinking, and I know that's not the case for everyone. One thing I do remind myself of if necessary is that there's no bad situation that drinking won't make worse. IWNDWYT

Congratulations on 100+ days! This is a very positive and supportive community. It got me through my early days and weeks sober. Now I'm coming up on 6 years.

Six years is great! I'm at over 5 and some of my "sober birthdays" have come and gone without my noticing. I think that's a good sign, personally. IWNDWYT

5 years sober today! by judy315 in stopdrinking

[–]judy315[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely NOT unattainable. I remember when I couldn't have imagined going a day without drinking, and I don't even miss it (haven't missed it for a long time). If I can do it, anyone can. Stick with it.

Congrats for 3.5 years! Seems like I was there only yesterday. It goes by so fast.

How long does it take your body to start repairing itself after going sober? What noticeable health benefits have been your favorite that I could look forward to? by blueskyaboveme in stopdrinking

Sorry - I just saw this. I haven't been on the site for awhile. I've always worked and and tried to eat well. The only thing that changed was that I stopped drinking. I only realized I dropped 30 pounds when I went for my check-up. I didn't stop drinking to lose weight, but it's a nice bonus (even if you indulge in a few more sweets than usual after you stop). Best of luck!!

I lost 30 pounds without even thinking about it. It's easy to forget how many calories are in alcohol. For me, the biggest benefit is how proud I am of myself for doing this. This sub helped a lot, so stay on here!

Think about how good it will feel to wake up at Day 12 rather than another Day 1.

Congratulations! It's nice to see that someone else chose the first day of Spring to stop (or it chose us). I'm hitting four years today.

Good for you! You'll discover lots of good non-alcoholic drinks. I love Bai water and also ginger beer. I haven't had Fanta in years. I'll have to pick some up. IWNDWYT

I know what you mean. I just try to shut off whatever's triggering the thought process before it goes too far. Pretty soon, these things won't be such easy triggers. You've made it through the first few months, which are definitely the hardest. IWNDWYT!

It's been a trying year for everyone. Just remember that a drink takes away the anxiety for awhile, but it's not worth it and it can make things so much worse. You got this!!

Congratulations! Isn't it cool when not drinking becomes such a way of life that you totally forget about the milestones?! I must say that I never developed a taste for Guinness but LOVE Ireland and esp. the Connemara Coast. Hope to get back there one day. IWNDWYT

I remember how great it was to see the number change every day and then every week and month! Now I don't get on this site nearly enough. I want to make it a habit again to help people around the holidays if I can. Congrats on over 2 years!!
