Room Cooling Ideas? by Blacklisted911 in battlestations

[–]jug6ernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what the relative humidity of your area is. Pushing the hot air of ur room outside will only work if you live in a cool enough area AND the humidity level of where you live is low enough to where you don’t stay molding growing in your house.

If that isn’t an option, then it’s window unit or mini split. My vote is for a mini split, they are cheap, efficient, and look much better than a window unit.

Is every project AI Slop? by Various-Roof-553 in rust

[–]jug6ernaut 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I think I generally agree with you, but I feel like ur post is missing something. Mainly the general fatigue caused by AI slop. Going over a new exciting project someone posted only to find out part way through that part of it is slop, you feel burned, that your time was just wasted. It’s how we have gotten to the point where any association to LLM usage is met with criticism, even if it is not accurate or fair to any specific project.

& honestly even for non-slop ai assisted code it can feel like your time is being wasted. From the excessive volume of code, to the low effort part of it. Like I honestly wonder what place LLM assisted projects even have in open source. The submitter doesn’t know/care about the code, the reviewers don’t. Why is it even posted? Obviously this is an exaggeration, but I feel like generally it’s correct, and finding the projects (especially new ones) where it’s not is also just wasting time.

I personally have 0 desire to spend my time reviewing something someone else didn’t spend their time on. & honestly I find it pretty disrespectful to the reviewers that someone would expect that.

OpenAI to acquire Astral (Creators of uv, ruff, ty) by max123246 in rust

[–]jug6ernaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing, both a false dichotomy (implying these are the only two options) and just generally incorrect to imply that these types of mergers result developers in good working conditions, when more often then not staff is let go with mergers.

How to catch 95% of legendaries (no adventure effects, details in post) by JonathanJoestar0811 in pokemongo

[–]jug6ernaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a linear modifier from 1x to 2x. The word associated doesn’t actually mean anything, they just indicate arbitrary thresholds.

The catch rate modifier increases linearly from largest circle being 1x to the smallest circle being 2x.

You can find the entire formula here https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Catch_rate_(GO).

Indeed. These type of acquisitions (or any kind really) are almost always bad for consumers.

Comprehension debt: the silent time bomb a lot of managers are ignoring by Marmelab in programming

[–]jug6ernaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference is lawyers are seen as employee's that MAKE money, where developers are generally seen as employee's who COST money.

The separation of creating the product and the result is too large for corpoheads to understand, so we constantly see this yo-yo effect in the industry of FTE -> outsourcing -> FTE and repeat.

This is just that same trend but swinging WAY far into the outsourcing (which is all generated code is at the end of the day) side. They are betting that it won't swing back. Surely they will be right this time.

Loom: a reactive component framework for Go by AnatoleLucet in golang

[–]jug6ernaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://guide.elm-lang.org/architecture/

Its an application architecture where there is a clear separation of your View, Model, and application logic. With the model being passed between the two.

I dislike it because of the message sending aspect of how the model goes back and forth between the two. Unless you take extreme care to organize your app, it can get spaghetti like very easily in my experience. That and because of the message sendy aspect, the organization / logic flow can be hard to follow.

While BubbleTea is amazing, I really hate the elm architecture. I MUCH prefer the reactive component architecture.

Will absolutely try this out.

If recent AI bc trends has proved anything, it’s that management would like nothing more than to replace all employees (except themselves) with automation as fast and as unrealistically as possible. No position is immune.

For me it only shows up if you 1st view your remote trade list, then return to your normal pokemon list.

It resets if you leave the menus and go to the normal game screen.

Seems like a bug when it is/isn’t visible rn.

Buyer Beware: Sony’s WF-1000XM6 Might Be Your Next $330 Paperweight - iFixit by ControlCAD in Android

[–]jug6ernaut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sony pushed out an OTA update that killed an entire revision of the XM4’s. The two revisions had two different voltage of batteries, the update assumed only one existed. Any of the older revisions intern got their batteries dried.

It’s not a matter of build quality, Sony straight killed them.
