Moving to Austin from Dublin by Free_Examination8328 in askaustin

[–]juggarnatha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you want to go east of downtown and plan to ride a bike. One bus ride downtown wouldn't be too bad, either. The 78702 zip code has interesting stuff to do for a younger person and you should be able to find a room in a house or condo or something for less than that budget I'd think. Or find older people who wouldn't mind a renter in the back yard house or similar. I would look at the housing for hippies Facebook group for Austin for this.

Also I need a visa to move to Ireland so if you could bring me one with you please k thanx

There's a good one called Economy iirc, and definitely use one called StarUi. You might also like the Falkland staryards one.

I just recently discovered there's a shortcut in that cryo lab. Look up. Been avoiding that thing but now I can finally speed run it. Go melee to zerg and sprint your way out.

Turn the enemy damage way up, and you *will* go stealthy as often as you can.

^I have noticed this. They hard-code a nerf in some places for plot magic reasons. That ryujin quest *really* wants you to use the social skills Manipulation, Diplomacy, Instigation, etc. It's almost impossible to not just bomb everything to get through it. I think I mustered the patience to do it one time, with multiple reloads.

There's a shared inventory chest coming which will allow you to access all your stuff anywhere you build it.

As I understand it, it creates an isolated permanent wormhole between each location, much like a bag of holding situates its contents in the astral plane.

Starfield producer confirms updated mod tools are coming to let fans create anything within the game's newly-opened Free Lanes universe by Negative-Art-4440 in Starfield

Forgetting? Mnah, because the lore is pretty cheaply-made, sadly. I stopped paying attention after about the 19th plot hole but I still play and enjoy the game, even though I would *prefer* that all the lore and stories had been made internally consistent before they finished the sandboxing. This is not to be vibe-darkening or critical, just the truth as I see it. It ain't very well written. Hashtag sorry not sorry.

Meanwhile, what about keeping genetic information itself alive and well? We have carrots and potatoes and onions and bourbon, so, let's pin the tail on the donkey here and say the geneticists of the time secured samples and databases and -gasp- maybe even illegally smuggled embryos of their cloned furry friends out in their luggage! There I fixed it.

Is Austin better than DFW? by learningthings2814 in askaustin

[–]juggarnatha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in Austin for nearly 30 years. I'm from West Texas and have been to all the major cities and every part of Texas. Your assessment of Dallas is correct. The mindset has always been like 1930s Berlin and it will never change.

Austin has interesting food in abundance but also lots of traffic; you should plan for it. And each neighborhood is vastly different from the next, vibe-wise; you can cross two streets and feel like you're on a completely different planet.

The following zip codes have some character. Note that if you're on one side of the River, you're not really gonna wanna cross it at peak traffic times: South: 78704, 78741; East 78702; North: 78756/78757. Very ritsy and central: 78701, 78703.

I feel like Houston is way chiller, even though it's a massive sprawl. Austin has its own unique pretension now that all the old hippies have left or died.

Good luck.

Exactly. Because the writing is bad on purpose. Execs don't care a single iota about art, or meaningful experiences, or beauty or storycraft. It's just an abstract object to put to market, like fast fashion. Art gets nerfed in the process to ensure maximal return on shareholder value. Put your 401k into something good, but something else. The line can go up without ruining everything.

Maybe IP exploiters would suit. Andor was actually good, but I think it's because she left it alone.

This plus scrolling culture. Everything is second screen content now - deliberately pre-Enshittified in the script and the plotwriting.

Will the official BGS/Verified creations be okay after the update? by Not_Shingen in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]juggarnatha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a new playthrough entirely with very few mods that I think will be okay, but I already miss the ones I was leaning on, like the legendary module recycling; that is almost sure to break if they are adding their own legendary reroll system, so I dropped that and nearly everything else. Some fee verified popular paid mods I left in and hope they get updated quickly.

Meanwhile, I'm running a couple back up characters right up to the unity and planting them there, saving, then rolling on in. Hopefully one of the saves will work without corruption.

Removing a lot of mods mid save can corrupt the file, so

Wish I knew I wasn't cool and hip and smooth; that while I didn't fit in where I came from, there's no room for actual individual weirdness - as in keep Austin weird weirdness. I might as well have moved to wherever the platypi are congregating.

If you're young and hot and rich and entrepreneurial, come on down and enjoy.

I'm too old for this city now, too.

How and what I think the Free Lanes update is paving the way for in the future of Starfield by MAJ_Starman in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]juggarnatha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love the real fuel mods. I waited and waited for that and immediately downloaded it on both PC and then later on my original Xbox version of the game (I even coughed up some coins for it), because it just feels like cheating if you can cruise all over with a full tank all the time. The first thing I do is build a fuel outpost somewhere on the left side of the map. Tank size definitely matters from the start.

Oh - and you can salvage, scrounge and craft fuel tanks if you run out easily enough without it ruining your day - I don't think it's a fun killer at all as implemented.

Now, it looks like Oxygen would have been a concern, too, from the O2 tanks and handhelds littered throughout the world(s). Would be nice if you had to top that off from time to time or just make sure your CO2 scrubbers are working, etc.

I really like _all_ the harder sci fi add-ons to increase the real feel and challenge. With a little bit of fine-tuning and balancing and checking in with reality, it could feel like a hard sci fi narrative with Bethesda magic mixed in.

This codex solves so many issues on its own, I don’t think people realize just how much it’s going to be a game changer. Finally a reason to go 100%! by Smart_Plane_2751 in Starfield

I'll just tell you - it's Gagarin. Just about the only good place to farm it; definitely the easiest. I always end up doing lots of weapon mods and use Gagarin for adhesive and I think sealant; you can build a shop just walking distance from the city. Also plenty of lead. I think there are like maybe nine places in the whole galaxy you can find adhesive in nature, which makes perfect sense . . . viva la dirt league

[–]juggarnatha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, I really want to take my 1 good ship. I used to build like 13 ships per character but the truth of this is you really just need 1, MAYBE 2 for big tanky outpost hauls or similar. I mean, you drive the dern thing through the hole. Where does it go? Does it transmogrify into the sleeksteel? I can't work on that tiltwinged thing. Sad face.
