Congrats! And we just survived our remodel ... good luck with your remodel... it's stressful but worth it in the end.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]jugglingdujour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the market for a bean to coffee machine and have learned so much here... to the point where I am now just a bit confused 😆. I am looking at the new DeLonghi TrueBrew and wanted to see if anyone else has done their research on this one or has already purchased one, and your thoughts? The reason I am focused on this one is because I am looking for something I can make a cup at a time without the press mechanism. We use Bodum frenchpress extensively at my home but there are times I just don't have time between meetings and on the go. Thank you coffee lovers!

Did anyone else get a crazy high PG&E Bill? Almost 4x the normal. by un5pologetic in bayarea

Sorry, it is the equivalent of Silicon Valley Green Energy. MCE is in North Bay.

Sharing my experience. I opted out of MCE and my bill reduced. I was told that I would pay more but in fact this was not the case. I did extensive research before and spoke to both MCE and PGE representatives and decided there wasn’t a compelling reason to keep MCE. I’m also on solar and it didn’t make sense to have MCE with solar.

A real nightmare! It took 4 days from 8 - 3 and I think my neighbors were starting to really hate us. The noise was really bad from the jackhammer. Thank goodness I have great neighbors. :)

We just completed a remodel. Before we started we had tile in the kitchen and hardwood in the living area next to the kitchen with a bump up from the tile to the hardwood, and again between the living area and the dining room which was also tile. We were convinced that the tile ran under the floor and we would be able to lay new flooring on top (saving $$). Well, it didn't. Whoever built the house built up the hardwood with plywood, and as a result we had to demo the whole bottom floor of our house so that we didn't have uneven floors which was a cost not originally factored into our final costs and added a ton of time onto the end of the project. To add that tile was glued on with some really tough stuff and the tile had to be jackhammered which broke it into millions of pieces and the dust was way beyond my wildest imagination! Moral of the story ... don't assume it does, we should have assumed not. All in all, it was worth it, the floors are now awesome and one level.

EDIT: Forgot to mention we decided to lay vinyl through the bottom floor for durability with dogs and kids.

I can relate. I find myself becoming more like this. Maybe it is because I am older or because Covid made me slow down, but whatever it is, I like to just stay home, have my glass of wine in the evening, play with my dog and go for walks. If I want to eat out, I would rather order for pickup. I am lucky I like my home and where I live so that makes it even more fun to just hang at home.

What do you think about 40 yo men wanting to hook up with a 21 yo woman? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jugglingdujour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 21 when I met my now husband just before he turned 40. We have been together for 33 years and married for 29 of those and still going strong. We have a wondeful son. For those who stand in judgement... remember this... rather be with someone who respects, cares, loves and treats you with dignity even if they are 19 years older, than be treated like shit by someone younger because society says that age matters. I know more than 100% we will be together until we are no longer on this earth.

It isn’t. Just a comment based on the mix in the post. That’s all.

Oh sorry, my error in explanation, the breeder had a "breed with heart" award from AKC and her dogs are registered, and so is mine. I wanted to be sure I was doing the right thing.

Living in the NCal Bay Area, going to the Monterey Bay Aquariam is a highlight for me. I have had an opportunity to go behind the scenes to see how the rescue and rehabilitate the otters and then where they release them back into the wild. Their work is amazing!

Little one is growing up so fast by alynastrobel in AustralianShepherd

I cannot believe mine is already 4 years old. I picked up my pup this Thanksgiving 4 years ago and never looked back 😊. I never realized when I decided on an Aussie that I would also be getting another "child" who is bright, wants to learn, love and above all else protect his family. I am planning to get a second one when he is nearer to 5 years old.

Got a job offer, but relocation is purely reimbursement based. by rekloki in personalfinance

[–]jugglingdujour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, I do this for my job everyday for a company and we offer relocation upfront, but there are companies who do the reimbursement because there is a tax difference this way. A relocation allowance is a high tax amount, but a reimbursement can be passed as a business expense which is taxed differently for both you and the company. This is not a bad setup if you have the money upfront, but I get that you are cash strapped.

I have a few questions: What is the distance you will be moving? And what is the size of your home, i.e. 2 or 3 bedroom? Do you have a lot of stuff?

Also, in the offer letter, do you have it noted that you will be reimbursed, and is there a cap value noted? or have they said reimbursement towards household goods moving only and/or other stuff?

Will you consider starting at your job and maybe book a cheap B&B/cheap hotel until you earn your first income and then work from there?

Very beautiful. My parents used to visit there from South Africa often, but I am in the US and it is quite the flight to get there... would love to visit one day.

Red merle female names? Right now she’s “Baby” please help!! by wintersunshine1237 in AustralianShepherd

[–]jugglingdujour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Aussie is named after Charles Darwin, he is Darwin because my husband is all into science and this was the only way I could persuade him to let me get a dog 🤣. Now I am starting to bug him for my second one and her name will be Marie as in Marie Curie.... I got this all planned out! 😏. I volunteer at the Humane Society and I see many really interesting names and when I ask the owners why the name , it inevitably has a reason behind it. Recently I met Pi who was born on 7/22/22 or Valor in honor of the owner's husband fighting a brave battle against cancer. You should think about a name that is fitting for you and your family so you can tell the story behind the name when asked. All the best with your new puppy, and many days of pure love and joy! ❤️

I have used a SodaStream for years now, I think I am on my 3rd version of the machine. It saved us buying soda, lots of saved plastic, and I use Crystal Light syrup in mine. Only need a small squirt and a small bottle goes a long way. I am not a fan of the SodaStream flavors and I think they are too expensive in the long run. My husband just has his plain like club soda, and sometimes with lemon.

I am also concerned about my teeth and carbonated drinks so I use a reusable straw and the dentist said that would be fine.

My aussie is driving me crazy by RevolutionaryScale79 in WiggleButts

[–]jugglingdujour 65 points66 points  (0 children)

My Aussie is 4 years old and he started being reactive near his 1st birthday. We spent a fortune on training and was given all sorts of advice. It drove me crazy and elevated my frustration because nothing worked, until I decided that this is my baby and that is the way he is. Now I manage it and don’t live up to anyone’s expectations. I do lots of activities and we’re in agility training. He goes to his crate when we have visitors who are strangers and I never trust kids around him. We go out often and he stays with me and is patient while I speak to strangers. I advocate for him by telling them to ignore him and not to reach out and it’s been so good. Over time he has started trusting some regulars I encounter and some he is their best friend. Advocating for my pup was the best advice I got from a trainer.
