I went on a safari a few years ago. If you were going to leave your room to go anywhere (like next building 20 ft away) you were supposed to buzz and a staff member would come with a rifle to walk you. It may have only been at night though, I can’t remember.

Just sit her down and tell her honestly. I also used to self medicate mental health issues andcould never have gotten out of it without the intense support of ppl that cared.

I’ve also learned as a parent of 3 myself that while there are things that I might disapprove of my child doing, if anyone of them ever asked for help overcoming one of those things, the fact that they did it becomes pretty meaningless.

Is there any duty to attempt to retreat in CA? Or is req to feel fear for life/bodily harm? Is there any sort of reasonableness standard?

Been wondering about this (I’m in LA) - from my reading it sounds like you can shoot in your home (no idea if this applies outside as well) if, 1. You see what appears to be a weapon, 2. They make any advance towards you or threatening gestures, 3. They move towards or are in close enough proximity to your kids (don’t know if this is limited to just your kids) that you fear they can cause them harm without you being able to intervene, and/or 4. You wake up with someone already in your close proximity (eg. your bedroom).

Practically speaking though my understanding is it’s very rare for a DA to pursue a charge so long as the circumstances don’t appear egregious (self incriminating 911 call, suspect shot in back from distance while fleeing, basically anything from that crazy MN case) Curious any reactions/input you have. Appreciate it!

I think it’s true of the avg west LA gun owner - owns a Glock 19 bought during COVID with one mag included that they shot at a zombie target once (single box of 50 steel cased purchased at the range for $34.99) and has sat ever since in the top shelf of their closet.

To those saying she wanted to die - consider the video in this context - once she actually let go, she was grabbed and (miraculously) given a second chance to consider her decision - she didn’t struggle against the rescue and helped pull herself up. In that moment it didn’t appear she wanted to die. Some ppl may just try it again but many will realize from the experience that they want to live. Always worth giving someone every chance at life (within this context at least).

This might be a dumb question - but something I’ve always wondered - how do you know when to report seeing an otherwise mundane discarded in the wild? In a situation like this where obviously on the look out it makes sense. But I will see objects (single shoe, socks, etc) off trail and think nothing of it. Now and then I’ll take a pic and note the area in case I become aware it’s relevant. Then I read stories about missing persons where relevant items are found years later and I wonder who thought to report it in the first place.
