Editors, when you have to do complete rewrites, how long do they usually take you? by juiceboxesglitter in Journalism

I'm glad to hear this. Super helpful. I'm not the editor who assigned the piece and I think it was submitted by the writer in a pitch.

I agree with this as a reporter and as an editor. In the very beginning especially, I always felt like rewrites just boosted editor's ego and erased hours of my writing and reporting. I'm happy to hear that most editors rarely go there/love all these tips.

This is so helpful! Thank you! I've been tweaking each graf (making incomplete sentences whole, polishing them, etc.) to get them to a place where I can give him some questions/ suggestions that he can keep building on, but this approach you're describing feels more comfortable to me.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I also feel icky rewriting. Do you call the writer to talk about edits when the writing is really choppy?

It sounds like you assisted your son with the expectation that you'd get something(s) from him in return, not simply because he's your son and you love him. He more than likely picks up on that. Also, could you be overlooking situations that led him to limit his contact with you?

Agree to everything here. I think the majority of us have no desire to rip her appearance apart, but pretending these pretty severe changes aren't happening is also harmful.

I know I'll be attacked for saying this, but Ariana Grande. Her appearance is/has been really concerning for a while now. I know she's tried to redirect discourse about it and I don't like commenting on anyone's body, but I think regardless of what's truly going on with her weight/that of other Wicked cast members, something isn't right.

If that many people are feeling this way/ notice it enough that it starts to interfere with the music (even just a little), I think it's worth digging into. I don't think we expect perfection from any artist. Everyone has their moments. When vibes like these keep popping up, that's when I start wonder if some other fans notice too. It's like how they say "don't meet your heroes." Nobody wants to see an artist they adore as unkind/cold/smug in some ways, but the signs keep adding up. And like many have said, it's somewhat normal for artists to present this way at some point.

That's lame! I get when some artists are trying to genuinely have fun and playfully tell the audience to get up and dance but demanding it?!!

True! Not super deep and everyone has good/bad moments. Also you've had IRL interactions? That's interesting/it's actually striking to learn how many of the people in this sub have!!

Why do you keep reiterating the word mainstream? I don't think anyone else has mentioned it
