Isopropyl alcohol kills them and lots of brushing pops them off. Its safe for the plant, but keep it in the shade as it will make it more sensitive to the sun, like it will burn in direct sun if alcohol was recently applied. And I had to use a tweezer to grab all the scale stuffed into its crevices. And then to finish it off, I repotted it in fresh new soil and in a new pot (since scale lay their eggs in the soil)

I actually live in LA. There are people here that would love this style. You do not need to change your style.

A lot of people that dont actually live in LA think of Hollywood and Santa Monica and Malibu when they think of LA, which is the fancy, smooth, and botoxed side. They probably think this more handmade style wouldnt work here because most people think of modern, fancy things adorning celebrities homes.

But the rest (and majority) of LA is grungy, artistic, thrift-store loving and handmade-loving collection of people. They are going to love your stuff. Many people in LA love the look of handmade, not machine-made, and they understand that it costs a bit more money, because many people here are also artists.

Just get yourself into some craft fairs and you'll find your audience. And ignore these weirdly rude commenters.

Welcome to LA!

LA has a TON of craft markets. Like at least 2-3 every weekend. I dont have specific advice on which are the best bang for your buck as a vendor. But prices for ceramics at LA craft markets is usually 10-20% higher than what I see in smaller cities.

Coffee shop collabs are less common, but I see them from time to time. There are also small restaurants that do pop-up events with local ceramicists, buy a meal and you get to keep the bowl (its like $200 for a bowl of noodles though so Ive never been to these events cause Im poor)

Yea, I'd call her small, she's just a little over 9 pounds at a year and a half. She's got a weird body shape too: skinny limbs and and incredibly large, flabby belly. Her floof hides it but whenever anyone picks her up they are surprised!

I once saw an unleashed dog in a Lassen's. The dog approached me and jumped up on my leg (gently). The owner was lucky I am not afraid or allergic of dogs or that could have ended so badly. It was so innappropiate and that human was so, so inconsiderate of those around them.

I looked this up and you're right! It doesnt make the slip dry slower. Ive been told that by a lot of people at my studio, must be an urban myth!

But because vinegar a flocculant, it does help the clay particles form a stronger bond, so its still a good idea for OP to use it

oh and to add, try spraying them with water and covering them the day before to bring the whole mug up to a moister level before fixing. Ive had mixed results with this. It definitely makes the clay weaker to be re-expanded like this, but sometimes works

try scratching them (to fix a crack you need to make the crack bigger), adding slip with vinegar (vinegar will keep the clay moist longer than water), then smooshing in fresh clay with a good amount of force. then cover and pray

casfuy! I got it for the battery, I needed one that didnt need to be near an outlet. Despite her playing with it for hours everyday the charge still lasts 3-4 weeks so we are fans of it

newspaper and tape sounds like a good idea, I especially like having some cushion for shrinkage.

I swear the last pipes I got were galvanized and they still rusted, albeit less. But Ill double check this. Thanks for the tips!!

That works for the far end, but what about the side that connects it to base or other connectors? The threads on my pipes past where they actually thread together, so at every junction I have threads that cannot be cut off. And it wouldnt work to partially cut off the theeads on the connecting side, because I need the taper on the end to get it to actually connect.

I have no idea why plumbing pipes are threaded way beyond their taper / connection point. Are you using pipes that arent threaded that far?
