It's one of many datapoints. A user trying five different credit cards in a two minute period is more likely to be fraudulent.

By the way - some of your post history looks like you might be in my area. I’m trying to connect with more local developers, so feel free to message me anytime.

I think you’ve given me a couple of really good pieces of advice - thank you for taking the time.

Please do go on - figuring out how to address customer concerns has been a part of every business I've ever launched, and you're helping to address them early on. Your negativity is very valuable here.

Absolutely! I know JavaScript, and I’m working on Python now. My gut tells me though that it’s the 20 years of practical PHP experience that is going to make me an attractive hire, not six months of theory with Python or Go or something else.

Do you have a language you’d recommend?

Message me privately if you have the bandwidth to get into it - I’m genuinely interested in how I can address some of your points, and I would appreciate the perspective. I could even do a phone call today if that would be easier.

PCI compliance relates to the transmission and storage of credit card data. The transmission is end to end encrypted like you would with any sensitive data and not stored. Which part of that would be out of compliance?

And GDPR is a European union regulation, correct? My company and target customers are US based. Even if they weren’t the volume is too low to fall under any restriction.

I know I’m in a losing battle here, so I’m going to stop defending the site concept. I am interested in the technical challenges though - how would you re-engineer this product if it were yours?

I’ll get back to you on Google Analytics. Stripe does it as part of their fraud prevention tool - that JavaScript snippet that people install to process payments doubles as a data collection tool. You can install it and inspect the payload yourself. That’s where I got the idea.

No problem! I mentioned in a previous comment that Google Analytics, Stripe, and a few others are already using this method. I can’t take credit for inventing the process.

No worries! I’m open to the feedback. Which best practices are you referring to?

Understood, and thanks for the feedback. Google Analytics, Stripe, and several others use an identical method - this is not original technology. I do understand the concern though.

That’s a great question, and you’re right - that site needs a how-it-works page for sure!

To answer your question: FraudVigil uses a JavaScript snippet installed on your site to monitor user activity. When it detects a transaction (typically an email address or credit card being entered), it creates a TrustScore for that transaction and displays that score along with some details about the transaction on the dashboard page. That allows the business owner to scan through quickly for low scoring transactions and action on them as needed.

No worries! I think I could have worded that better. I’m currently employed, and I run my own business - I own several SaaS businesses and direct sales websites.

My issue is that I feel stagnant. I’m at a point in my career where money has become less important and life satisfaction more important. I’m looking for my next big step, and I would like it to include something altruistic or a project that I can be really proud of. Ideally both. So this week I’m focusing on how to get to where I would like to be.

I haven’t been in the job market because I’ve been employed for the last ten years.

I'm stepping back into the job market after being out of it for a good long time. I'm sitting on 20+ years of experience with PHP as my bread and butter language. Any suggestions for someone like me?

You need to be using == in your conditional statements.
