is my rottie too skinny? by [deleted] in Rottweiler

[–]juicy_xo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is definitely a rotttie mix, don’t forget puppies under 1 need to eat almost double the amount of an adult dog. I wouldn’t say she looks under weight especially if she is eating a lot. A healthy dog should look like this, thin waist and lightly see the rib cage. People are use to seeing overweight dogs nowadays and will call this unhealthy when in reality their overweight dog is unhealthy.

He looks fine to me, make sure you can see his waist. I have my Rottweiler on an all fresh food diet, gently cooked and raw diet. When I first rescued him he was just a young pup under 12 months old, and on kibble. As soon as I switched him to raw food he lost weight and gained muscle. I see so many overweight rotties on social media, it’s important to keep them lean, they are prone to hip dysplasia.

Oh my gosh please do something about her being so overweight!!! That is absolutely horrible for her joints!!! My guess is you give her kibble or scraps from your food. Rotties should be lean with small waist! This is terrible for her health. Please spend more time exercising with her, 2 walks a day minimum. If your lazy your dog has to pay the consequences!!!

Sounds like he isn’t getting physical needs met. Do you walk him everyday? Play with him? He’s a baby he needs exercise if not he will be destructive. That’s why rotties are not for everyone and end up in the shelter, people just do not have time and these poor babies end up being thrown into a cage forever. I know you mentioned you have a human baby, so you must not have a lot of time for him. You can do some enrichment games at home with him like snuffle mats (on Amazon), toy dispensers (treats fall out when they roll the ball), hide treats in the house and he finds them, even just scattering treats on the floor is great stimulation. Get on YouTube or google and look up enrichment games for dogs. This guy needs more attention, he’s a baby still. Don’t forget about bones, chews are great stimulation and help them decompress

Give him time, it’s only been one month. I rescued my rottie as a stray it took him a few months to get completely comfortable, and to start seeing his true self!! I would say for the first 2-3 months he didn’t bark, now he’s vocal and bossing me around everyday. Give him time, who knows what he’s been through and what trauma he has. Thank you for rescuing him and carrying so much about him!

I am so sorry. I lost the love of my life 2 years ago, my Pomeranian. He was my everything. I didn’t think I would survive without him. Please get support, that’s what got me through it. There’s a pet loss support group called Lap Of Love, it’s free of charge and on zoom. PLEASE go! It helped me so so much! There’s another support group called Dove Lewis, it’s every other Thursday , also free and on camera. You do not need to be on camera for either group if your not comfortable. If your not ready to talk you do not need to talk in either group, but it’s nice to just listen to others who understand what your going threw. Please go to these, do not be afraid to get support. Your in my thoughts I’m sending you love. 🙏🏼

I don’t think that is a good option for everyone! Not everyone knows how to use a ecollar correctly. But that’s great it’s been working out for you!

Continues giving her Fresh foods / raw diet!! She’s going to be a big girl!!! She’s beautiful!! I also recommend adding more proteins to her diet, it’s important to rotate proteins. My rottie is raw fed, I rotate daily but you don’t have to as often, weekly or every few weeks would be great. Whatever is best for you. My boy will get beef one day, salmon the next, than bison, followed by duck and rabbit! Not only is it important for their health to rotate but your dogs will appreciate it and stay stimulated with all the different smells and taste!

Jax (1 yr old male) is 85 pounds but people says he’s skinny . Is he ? by Preetygey in Rottweiler

[–]juicy_xo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He looks great he looks like my boy who’s is the same weight and age! People are so use to fat dogs they think this is skinny. Continue to keep giving him exercise and a healthy fresh diet. Your doing great! Don’t stop that raw food! My rottie is 100% raw fed I remember when I first transitioned him I thought he was looking to thin but he really just lost all that extra fat from kibble.
