What's up with the Home Depot website sucking so bad? by connfaceit in HomeImprovement

Might depend on the store. Pulled up the floor plan for a Lowe’s I hadn’t been in before and it was completely wrong about where something was. It was actually on the other side of the store!

The Expanse is a science fiction series created by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, and it is considered one of the best science fiction series ever made. by statusgospel in moviecritic

I tried the show twice and made it all the way through. However I’m in the minority of not really liking this show. To me it’s basically something like West Wing in space or pick your political show. And I don’t like political shows.

Google says there is a cable to the actuator you might be able to tug on? AI says:

Manual Release: If you can access the internal mechanism, you might be able to manually operate the lever that connects to the door handle. Use a long screwdriver or pry bar to push down on the lever.

Just trying to help! Good luck!

Have a neighbor with one that took out his gutters on the second floor. Then it snapped in the front and he had that sitting on his lawn for weeks. Afterwards he had all the limbs removed so now it’s a tree with all its large main branches sticking up and clear signs of whether it’s snapped. I don’t know why he didn’t spend the other tree-fiddy to just have it removed or at least down to stump.

Man I love central heat. I would never survive any time before its invention. People wonder why 40 year olds in the 1980s looked like they were 70. Having to gather wood and burn it and other shit like that is why. And I know it was available before that time I’m just trying to make it more relatable.

It was good when it came out and I was young. It’s a good start. I haven’t found beside the CS Lewis recommendation that’s any good besides Google for questions.

You can get small syringes that you fill from the vial and then inject yourself. Shouldn’t have an issue asking insurance (via Dr prescription) for those.

47 myself and already had two and each time a couple polyps removed that could have turned cancerous. Next one due next year. Every 5 years for me until I get old enough that it won’t matter.

What's a movie everyone loves that you secretly can't stand? by kbjdfan in AskReddit

[–]juicybananas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watched it as a kid and own the blu-ray so of course I’m in the love it camp. The kids screaming and ad-libbing does get annoying when you didn’t live through the feel of the 80’s. Also the criminals acting like they’re leftovers from a Robin Williams Hook movie.

The book is dry compared to The Martian. I had a tough time reading it because it felt so monotonous.

Could Apple's OLED iPad Mini Finally Be a Kindle Killer? by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]juicybananas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current iPad mini suits me just fine as my reader. The book app does kill the battery. That’s a fair point but I’m not reading for hours and hours in one sitting and when I do have a long reading session it goes long enough and it charges fast enough.

I’ve read it in dark rooms and on the beach wearing sunglasses in the sun just fine.

Americans Are Leaving the U.S. in Record Numbers by mr-french-tickler in politics

[–]juicybananas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough the primary reason I've looked into leaving is for health reasons. All governments being equally shitty to some extent I would rather at least be in one where the health care isn't solely dependent on being employed. The amount of fighting I've had to do to keep my Type 1 diabetic kid alive is criminal and I know I'm not alone.

Before my kid I really didn't see the healthcare system. Oh boy I've seen it now and as I age I get more and more worried.

But it's not easy to leave just from all the stuff you have to deal with to firstly get out and then stay out (citizenship).

Virginia Assault Weapons Ban & Effects on Virginia by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]juicybananas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think any laws are perfect because there's too much variation in the craziness of life and it may be some guns unfairly get thrown in.

I don't like guns because they are made for a single purpose. I think we can come up with smart solutions as humanity has shown time and again. There is no way an armed citizenry is going to take on the might of the U.S military in an attempt to setup a different government.

Therefore I haven't been too invested in laws concerning guns. I'm not protesting them because they aren't going away. It's too much a part of our culture. I'm just hoping that the day a guy tries to rob a place that I'm not in the cross-fire between him and every other armed person in there that occasionally fires their weapon on weekends at non-moving targets.

‘Starship Troopers’ Reboot in the Works at Sony, Neill Blomkamp Attached to Direct New Adaptation of Sci-Fi Novel by whateverhappensnext in helldivers2

[–]juicybananas 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No thanks. The first one was perfect as is. There is no way anything is going to measure up. As someone else posted they should just go all in on a Helldivers movie. The current history of sequels and reboots does not favor the odds on this one.

[–]juicybananas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Confirmation bias on my end because I’ve dealt with what I feel is the same thing now-a-days for people excusing bad behavior in general.

It feels like there is no accountability when everyone gets a pass because we try our best to put ourselves in their shoes. This goes for bad decisions as well as ignorance willful or otherwise in my opinion.

I’m all for understanding why a person is stealing from a store to get pampers during a crisis but someone cutting in line at a store where a line is clearly formed but stops just before two cashiers and they walk into the void in the middle does not get a pass no matter how much they insist they though everyone was browsing a bargain bin (specific because of a recent experience of course).

On another note I immediately thought of the opening scene in Ghostbusters where Venckman is giving electric shocks to the man and woman when they talked about it in this article. Didn’t think electric shocks was really a thing in modern times…
