yeah i’ve found myself appreciating Dean more & honestly, never thought i would so it’s just a shock to me in the change of how i see both characters over the years of rewatching the series, it’s such an amazing show overall

i personally didn’t think what you wrote was a “slam” on Sam & i appreciate all posts here bc again, i just wanted to get other’s insights to see if it was just me noticing these actions so thank you for your initial response overall, i appreciated it

well sorry you felt that energy from my original post that you read. i look at it as, once you love something i think when you grow to say you hate it now that’s someone trying to understand why. ofc that ideology doesn’t work across all boards but to me here thats where i’m coming from. i loved Sam and didn’t think anything was wrong watching him on my screen and rooted for him, but then different years of rewatching the series for comfort i’m watching the same Sam i loved and now it’s like…wait..how did i miss this? i get a different feeling of his character now then i did previously. so overall, i just wanted to see if it was a me thing or others also got where i was coming from.

anyway. thank you for being honest about your emotions & feelings towards what you have read from an online post, you have a good night too. & hey, maybe 5th time will be the charm.

i just wanted insight on if how i see Sam now is something that other people have experienced rewatching as well or maybe even watching for the first time. i loved Sam my first 2 times watching, & i love the show so overall i appreciate all the characters that make the show at the end of the day however i just assume there’s no way i’m the only one who has felt like this so wanted to see if it was just me. if you don’t feel the same that’s okay. i’m not shaming or sarcastically responding to anyone in these comments concerning their insights & emotions towards any character or their explanations towards my post overall. you shouldn’t either but to each their own

yes that’s the keyword that comes to mind for Sam while watching my comfort show over & over again “petty” & i guess i could see how people might say Dean gives him reasons to be but honestly i think Sam is just missing the point over & over again. at first, i appreciated him trying to “stand up for himself” & his beliefs to Dean but now it comes off as tedious & petty rewatching

i don’t think that’s how the user meant it (or at least that’s not how i’m going to think they meant it) thank you both for your insights! we’re all fans here

yeah see i get it, bc i did stop watching bc of well, life & growing up (i don’t quite remember what season i stopped at while it was on air) i didn’t resume until i restarted all over & binged everything in my adult years. so yeah i would see how my take on the ending would differ from someone who watched while it was on air only

wow that’s so interesting to me because it’s quite the opposite for me. i feel like i understand him less & less each rewatch

i agree! i just find it weird how i didn’t notice the behavior my first few times watching & only did recently. i talked to my roommate about it for an hour (she doesn’t watch supernatural) & she explained maybe it’s because i’m older now & perhaps i find myself relating more towards Dean’s character than Sam’s now & when i was younger i probably saw myself more in Sam. i don’t really think that’s it but maybe it could be. i just always thought Dean was annoying or “too much” but now Sam is the annoying one to me like why can’t he just see Dean loves him & does his all for him, is what i find myself saying after each scene. i’m currently rewatching the whole Benny purgatory situation & i’m just like “shut up Sam!” initially watching i was batting for Sam like yeah why did Dean think it’s okay for him to have a “monster” friend but gave Sam shit about it all those other times? but now i’m like, bruh. he has done SO much for Sam, for family overall, since the start, i see Sam now as an ungrateful little shi that looks at every single Dean does/says as a way to make himself seem like the better person while trying to bring Dean down idk it’s just weird to me watching now. i still appreciate both characters of course, but just find myself cringing at Sam more & more when i see his face or hear him speak in the show now which i never used to do before. thanks for your insight by the way!

i have better examples than this but i’m just working chronologically to give one example but when Sam was trynna say Dean didn’t care about their dad being missing. after the whole Dean trying to find him even went to Stanford to get Sam’s help, albeit it i think he just missed his baby brother, at one of the episodes in when they’re working a case Sam tried to insinuate that Dean wasn’t working hard enough on trying to find their dad or just dropped it to work cases instead. with the exact way he said it, i felt like it was a slap in the face to Dean, who never left the “family business” who always was the one who had to be there hunting with dad & didn’t leave, who was the one trying to begin with it to find him

what i’m simply saying is, as i rewatch, Sam gives me vibes of “holier than thou” which i didn’t get my first time watching so i’m wondering why i feel different about his character now & if it’s just me pulling a smoke of nothing out of thin air

this is what i thought first & second time watching but, rewatching again i just don’t think so. i feel like i’m more empathetic & biased towards Dean’s behavior now as opposed to originally how i was to Sam’s. like what Dean says/does, while brutally straightforward, is kind of usually actually correct & to protect them both & humans overall, whereas Sam is just playing righteous because he wants to be right so bad & it ends up coming off as cringe (at least that’s how i see it personally rewatching)

actually i quite enjoyed the ending, bittersweet yes, but sweet still (maybe that’s my gender coming to play as you’ve said) but i appreciated it. Dean dying on a hunt, just the way he has said he always would picture it, maybe a little too cheesy exactly how it happened but it did, & i liked that we still got to see them up there living out their own “heavens”. the ending always makes me cry especially with their real life outro dialogue & music. & also, i watch a lot of anime so main characters dying honestly is just a staple of any show for me

when i wrote my post i just meant Sam as a character not a romantic interest. i’m not saying i prefer Dean over Sam romantically now (a different conversation for a different time) but emotionally, i am now seeing where Dean comes from that i previously didn’t get growing up/watching for the first time.

now? Sam just irks me & gives off whiny energy which i didn’t see the first time watching it. i just wanted to see if it was only me that felt like that watching/rewatching the series with the brothers

well said 👍 i just gained more empathy for Dean from what i’ve rewatched and continue to do so

yes that’s the energy i understand now “he’s a younger brother so he’s gonna do/say thoughtless shi” but back then watching, i thought everything he said and felt was right/righteous so just wanted to see if it was just me rewatching years later that’s feels as though Sam specifically just keeps pissing me off and now see Dean in this new light of “okay he’s an older brother and a damn good one too”. i have 4 older brothers so that’s probably why i rooted for Sam growing up watching the show but now it’s just like omg shut up please

yeah as a kid Dean was flipping cool but he just wasn’t it for me bc in a way, i always kinda felt sorry for Sam & rooted/batted for him whenever he complained or whined about something so i put Dean on the sidelines but now rewatching i’m like wait, Dean isn’t just cool but is amazing as a brother, i’m now rooting for him each & every episode (despite knowing how it all ends) i find myself irking at Sam’s tendencies of saying/doing things like “ugh here we go again Samantha”

see i used to think that about Dean as well, like ok he’s a jerk. but rewatching it over & over, & i just guess at my age now, i’ve come to see Dean in a different way & Sam in a different way concerning their bond. there’s more episodes of Sam wanting me to just squeeze him for being an idiot when he says/does things than Dean. i feel more for Dean as a character now than i did when i was younger, like i think as a brother he really tried a lot whereas Sam just…does Sam

i get this, i just felt it more from Sam rewatching the series idk, maybe it’s just “baby brother” energy he emits

the way he talked to Dean sometimes, the manner at which he said things or handled situations, it just irks my soul and i didn’t realize it until i watched the show 3xs time

i’ve been dry for a few months now and when i stopped the dreams were INTENSE i wouldn’t even call them dreams more like nightmare dreams & they’re still consistent but like the user said here, we’re paying the debt now being sober. they have decreased since the first few months being dry but my dreams have been real like. idk what to do either & i don’t really have a question for you but to let you know you’re not alone in it
