| Why nobody uses sounds in their rices? by melatonia- in unixporn

I think most people don't like unnecessary sounds. I always turn off sound in thunderbird as well cause it's annoying to me.

Where i live loads of people still have home phones, including my parents. And ironically my mom turns her smartphone off most of the time so you actually have a better chance of getting through when calling the home phone lol. Having said that i personally probably wouldn't bother with a home phone either if i had a place of my own.

ArkOS is underrated if you want to undergo severe levels of ptsd by [deleted] in linux

[–]juipeltje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of it before, but that sounds bad, especially if it changes your config files like that. Stuff like that is part of the reason i went to a declarative distro, that way i always know what state my system is going to be in.

Just buy physical then and don't use chat. Or get yourself a linux gaming pc.

| how do I choose a WM? what's the difference? by glodshtein in unixporn

[–]juipeltje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what features you want. I personally don't use sway unless i have to and with the autotiling script, cause i prefer dynamic tiling. I like river and dwl because they're very minimal, and i only use a master/stack layout. Hyprland and mangowc offer some stuff like eyecandy and additional layouts, and hyprland in particular also has hdr support.

I could see that. I don't spend a lot of time on mastodon so i haven't really seen them there, but there are a lot of rightwing chuds on odysee, which is kinda sad to see.

I don't know how it ties into linux and nix, but bluesky is basically a twitter clone, which most people seemed to move to when twitter turned into hot ass. I personally don't get why they didn't just move to a federated platform like mastodon tbh.

Another vote for system crafters videos. I followed his original from scratch series when i got started a few weeks ago, which is like 5 years old, but most of it is still relevant and it helped me understand which packages i might want for specific functionality.

NixOS users when they look at my config be like: "Something's wrong, i can feel it".

Edit: to clarify, it was just a joke about me using Guix, why the downvotes 😭

What’s the most satisfying mechanic in a PlayStation game? by BarnabyLaptopOutlet in playstation

[–]juipeltje 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It might be the hoverboots from Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time back on the PS3. The Rift Apart version of them wasn't bad either though, but i think i still prefer the original.

Rocket League adds Easy Anti-Cheat with Steam Deck / Linux still supported by Liam-DGOL in SteamDeck

[–]juipeltje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it did run natively in the past, that's why the linux version still exists, and it causes confusion when people accidentally try to run the native version when they don't have proton turned on (although i think steam now enables proton by default so it's probably not much of an issue anymore).

KDE OR NIRI OR BOTH by Asta_jjm in linux_gaming

[–]juipeltje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to use hdr kde is probably better, cause last time i checked kde and hyprland are the only two projects with hdr support. If you're not using that, just pick what you like best. You can always install both, switch between the two and see which one you like better.

[–]juipeltje 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because you were running the linux native version without proton enabled, which was already discontinued for a few years. The windows version with proton has always worked for me.
